This is a lovely album. I gave it a little write-up in my Haunted Generation column in the current @forteantimes.bsky.social...

Following @gehegedrei.bsky.social's kind play of 'Hello' from my latest album last night, I thought I'd mention there's still some CDs of Agatewards available if anyone fancies 45 minutes of gentle electronica infused with 1960's readings of Lincolnshire dialect poetry written in the late 1800s.

Roughly once a year I remember with incredulity that, within the 21st century, shopping centres had bowls of carnivorous fish and people would pay to put their bare feet in them and have the dead skin nibbled off while daytime shoppers stood around watching.

BOINK! This means our only current Folk Horror show with tickets remianing is at The Brewhouse in Burton-on-Trent next Wednesday, 28th. Just saying...

Next week's Folk Horror show at Carshalton's Cryer Arts Centre is SOLD OUT! If you're popping along, me and @bobfischer.bsky.social will see you there!

What happened to pub quiz machines? Four blokes huddled around a bleeping cabinet, pints in hand, all shouting "D! D! It's D - MARTIN FUCKING PETERS!" then groaning in unison when the bloke on the buttons goes rogue and presses "C - BOBBY CHARLTON". It all seemed to vanish overnight in about 2009.

Yarm Fair is in town! We got stuck at the top of the big wheel last night. "Are there some more rides on the other side of the bridge?" asked my other half, pointing into the vague distance. Reader, they were the traffic lights outside the Cleveland Bay.

Sparing a little thought for my old childhood friend Doug Simpson, who would have been 54 today. Which means it's 43 years today since I first went to his house for his 11th birthday... God, where does it all go? I miss you, mate.

This is deeply odd, but me and @andrewtsmith.bsky.social were indeed an answer on The Chase yesterday.

I just received a very strange text from @bobfischer.bsky.social - we were answers to a question on today's instalment of The Chase on ITV. Summer Winos is a somewhat on hold project that we embarked upon in 2009. Bizarre!

When I was little, my dad used to sing this rhyme to me: "My aunt's name is Eloisa Shufflebottom She lives down in Burton-on-Trent And every time that she rides a bicycle She always gets the handlebars bent" I might sing it onstage at this show. I've never been to Burton before.

A mere month until the Switched On electronic weekender in Whitby... now a lovely fixture in my calendar every year. Great line-up, nice vibes. And I'm all about the vibes. I'm hosting again, but don't let that put you off.

Anyone free on actual Halloween night? Come to Whitby! A full night of folklore and oddness, including my countdown of the Top 40 Best Witches Of All Time. Granny Weatherwax and Hazel McWitch are currently hovering around the Top 10, but Evil Edna is also looking strong...

This is the most remarkable story Ray Bradbury ever shared with me. He told it to me late one night, sitting in his den of antiquities and mementos. Take five minutes to read this. It’s pure magic. #Writing #Living #Creativity #RayBradbury #BookSky

Always loved the sheer oddness of That's Life. I interviewed Esther Rantzen a couple of years ago, along with pretty much everyone else involved in the 1984 Lirpa Loof hoax, and she was very funny - and clearly very proud of the mischief they'd all unleashed. hauntedgeneration.co.uk/2024/09/03/o...
