Digital Humanism Conference

Everyone agrees tech should serve people, not profit. But it's not easy to make investors care. “Good digital investment“ at @dighum.wien with E. Prem (eutema, EUDHIT), R. Tabarés @tecnalia.bsky.social, B. Prainsack @univie.ac.at, A. Min (Camp.org), G. Krause (msg Plaut).

A #dighum #dighum2026 special – I've put all my thoughts about about "hyperscalers" and allegedly US AI in one place. Featured a bit is @helenamalikova.bsky.social of course #digitalGovernance #DMA #AIRegulation #antitrust #GAFAM #transnationalUtilities joanna-bryson.blogspot.com/2026/06/work...

I was a bit late to hearing Bruce @schneier.com apparently read my slides at #digHum . Also repeating Moshe Vardi from yesterday too. (The utility thing I'm blogging about today because of some "interest" I got yesterday from the iaea.) Ironically, he's saying #genAI makes us all sound the same.

Saw this @dighum.wien Everyone in #AIEthics should watch it, though I did feel some parts went too far. But a lot of things seldom or never said are said, so that's good. @rebeccasear.bsky.social will appreciate the stats part.

What a special panel #dighum2026 in Vienna on how to sustain our digital commons @dighum.wien EU's "digital sovereignty" approach needs to include funding for our digital communities, which already providing alternatives, like open protocols. Public procurement needs to buy open, not just European.

If you're in Vienna, and are wondering what Victorian romance, Ukrainian progressive metalcore, library science, Brazil (1985), the Pope, and more have to do with ethical, human-driven information access, and whether we should put LLMs into everything, come join us tomorrow evening!

LLMs produce responses that are plausible but that contain factual inaccuracies. Its time for accountability! Precedents are established that companies are liable for answers they provide eg 2013 German Google case thx @financialtimes.com @johnthornhill.bsky.social for ft my work on.ft.com/46deNjr
