Saw a reddit post on why some leftists are anti-vegan or not openly pro-vegan and I understand the frustration. As someone who isn't currently vegan, there's a lot of overlap, but seriously, good luck getting people to care enough about things that don't directly impact human rights at this moment.

Lol, not only does this NOT address Jessie's point but it's also just wrong. If we are to be hyperbolic and actually have a choice between 50% hitler and 99% hitler, voting for 50% hitler very well may not decrease the "total amount of evil in the system" at all!

"Online Rent-a-Sage" Bret Devereaux@bretdevereaux.bsky.social

It is, fundamentally, an exercise of choosing the lesser evil, over and over and over again, so that the total amount of evil in the system decreases over time. And you must keep doing it, because - since evil is easy - good is easily reversed.

Yes, those can only change by removing certain people from power, but "evil" will persist as long as the status quo does, which Dems seem uninterested in challenging.

That being said, if we move away from simplifying hypotheticals the reality is that evil is a bad way to represent our problems. The issue is not too many bad guys in charge, it's fucking bad systems and incentives. "Badness" keeps being rewarded!

I think some have internalized the idea that you vote only with your conscience, that your vote is literally your voice. Which is kind of swallowing the mainstream propaganda whole isn't it? Maybe it's a reaction to all of the libs who tell people that their conscience is completely irrelevant? Idk

Caitlyn Wemyss@caitlynwemyss.bsky.social

idk why its so hard for bluesky leftists to decouple "voting for libs" from "supporting libs" in a FPTP system. im constantly called a lib for my ONE take that voters should employ some basic game theory, despite the fact that i fucking hate democrats and would kill for a socialist in charge.

I don't know anything about this guy but this is literally what some people think ADHD is about. Or what all the attention-span depleted youngins are doing.

I kinda can’t get over this logic! To say it’s okay because they’re “dressed like whores,” but you didn’t pay them Shane! Sex workers don’t want to be ogled either! They do it to get paid! It’s like saying you’re allowed to steal someone’s food if they’re dressed like a chef!!

I wouldn't even care if most of the processed chicken out there was composed in part or in whole of soy. In fact, I would be more likely to buy it, but of course, it's far less marketable.

Hilarious. My mother is a socialist and we both hate the libs who couldn't, for example, condemn a genocide and we both understand why they couldn't. This is dumb "socialists are actually misogynistic" framing.

None of the other aspects of 9/11 "trutherism" stuck with me after being raised with it except for how the fuck those building fell straight down at free fall speed. I don't even care enough to look into how or why, just never seen a satisfactory explanation for my dumbass.

This is why our government will be "forced" to offer insane incentives to invest in the country. Sure, you might be fucked in 4 years, but we'll give you tax breaks, subsidies, and a relief from tariffs. More money siphoned to the wealthy, furthering our collapse.

I really dislike how every event with local vendors will be dominated by people selling snake oil and spiritual nonsense. A lot of it is very pretty but it's still mostly scams.

Okay I like collecting physical media but, as a PC gamer, the pearl clutching over Sony discontinuing physical discs is weird. You don't actually enjoy having an easily scratchable license, you like that Sony can't easily take it away. You've confused the medium with what you thought were rights.

You, of course, never had those rights. When half the games you buy are unplayable in 3 years because it requires internet access to play and the servers have shut down, when governments continue to favor the digital rights of corporations over consumers, stop acting like discs were gonna save you.

Explaining why capitalism is bad and making people miserable isn't that hard. When every waking moment of your life is spent making other people richer: your job, your hobbies, your consumption, your relaxation, then of course your life is gonna be miserable.

No. They knew "mass deportation now" meant ethnic cleansing. "It just means arresting a bunch of bad people" was how they rationalised it. What made that work was the assumption that POC immigrants are likely to be bad. Which is called racism.

Aaron Reichlin-Melnick@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social

Quite a lot of people had in their head that “mass deportation” meant that they were going to arrest a bunch of bad people and that nobody good would be impacted. Seriously. They never thought further than that, and “get the bad people out” felt like a good idea to them.

On the one hand, I'm against magical thinking. On the other hand, if I see a local government cut down an indigenous woman's sacred tree because they refused to run a sidewalk around it, I'm going to boil over.

Why am I scrolling, I got a life to live but I'm attached to a website that doesn't even have an algorithm. Interestingly, I interact with more posts on here than I click on videos on my YouTube feed. Maybe I'm a different kind of brain-broken

It always comes with insane justifications too. "Some people want to live on the streets" is one of the more common ones I hear.

Luke O'Neil@lukeoneil47.bsky.social

This is why I'm always going on about how liberals and centrists have accepted that some degree of suffering must be baked into society. 10-20% suffering... whatever it is. That's the table stakes. Refusing to allow themselves to even dream of a world where this is an obvious affront.

The idea of an afterlife that people are only allowed into as long as they follow "the right rules" undermines fundamental morality. I could give a shit if people wanna get together on the weekend and perform interesting rituals, just stop selling any book as containing the "objective moral code"

Anyone find it weird how much money school districts (and colleges) spend on sports? Like there's a normal amount and then there's whatever American schools are doing. Football especially feels like a disturbing thing to spend so much money on.

The President of the USA declaring that "a whole civilisation will die tonight" is not something that arrives out of a vacuum. It is precipitated by the widespread international failure to hold USA, Israel, and their allies including the UK, accountable for their actions for many decades

Small piece to highlight from this mess but don't you love how religion just hangs in the background of everything the government does now. It's either in the forefront or the background of literally anything and I can feel the annoying atheism creeping back in.

BREAKING: The White House today proposed eliminating the Title X family planning program. A few hours later, the health dept quietly released guidance that would shift the focus of the program millions of low-income people rely on away from contraception and toward "family formation."

I haven't watched much of Yu-Gi-Oh but it kinda seems like not that good. Then again, I understand why cardboard crackheads would appreciate the one show to "imagine" if cards actually did cool shit.

“Zohran isn’t socialist enough! Zohran isn’t radical enough! Zohran isn’t revolutionary enough!” TRUE !! But he’s expanding the Overton window so YOUR socialism, YOUR revolutionary thought, YOUR communism can be more easily welcomed by the masses. Take advantage of it. Contribute to that expansion.

If you never had an "atheist as a personality" era, you must watch "How Aron Ra disproves Noah's Flood" series on YouTube. Not only do you get to learn a bunch of cool little science facts, but you get to revel in how wrong Christian creationists are.

Two sides of the same coin with “it’s the Israeli government, not all Israelis. Otherwise you’d have to blame all Americans for Trump” nonsense. Because they are desperately insecure about white America being blamed for this nation’s crimes that transcend presidencies and congresses.

Yes America Bad reposted

My take on why many (white) progressives say that Israel is making the US go to war is that they would very much prefer that to be the case than to have to examine their own culpability and participation in America's white supremacist militaristic reality. So much easier if it's outsiders.
