discWorld order

Always a pleasure to pop onto Discworld Order and chat Terry.

The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents episode of Discworld Order is out now. @iversen83.bsky.social talks about the novel that made him a Discworld fan & how Pratchett adapted the Discworld formula for a children's book. 📦 bit.ly/4z8SfMc 🍎 bit.ly/3Vk0iap 🟢 bit.ly/3TbXSdm

Discworld Order Episode 26 is now available! It covers The Last Hero, and regular guest Luke Jansen returns to discuss the artwork of Paul Kidby, writing to the brief and a rare Pratchett character idea that doesn't quite work. 🍎 bit.ly/3SSwqAT 🟢 bit.ly/4ii8wJv 📦 bit.ly/4qVZNik

Sorry for the absence. The next episode of Discworld Order will be coming out tomorrow. It will be on The Last Hero.

For any UK based comic book readers, Worst Man, the new graphic novel by Discworld Order podcast guests @brandtandstein.com , is out now. I'm looking forwards to getting my hands on a copy.

Do you need something to listen to while chilling out or doing household jobs? How about a Discworld podcast where Adrian Tchaikovsky discusses Terry Pratchett's Feet of Clay? Discworld Order episode 18 is found on all podcast apps & talks about World building and Artificial Intelligence.

I've been very lucky to have a few published authors join me on Discworl Order. @jensugden.bsky.social , co creator of Victoriocity and co author of High Vaultage, talked about the 1st Discworld novel that she read: Maskerade.

Great stuff. Of course, my favourite riff on the glass half full/half empty is this bit from Terry Pratchett's The Truth:

In Equal Rites, there is a throw away bit at the end where ants in Unseen University build a sugar cube pyramid. I thought it was just Pratchett being Pratchett. Well, I've just found out that there is a species of ant called the Pharoah Ant...

Reading a listicle on novels from the 2000's, and while it lists Night Watch as number 2, I'm baffled as to why it highlights Lord Winder as a "truly colourful character".

I'm sorry to say that the Discworld Order Podcast will be on a short hiatus. Some short term health issues have come up and I'm focussing on getting over that first. Hopefully we will be back in September.

Do you need something to listen to in the background? Do you have that last commute of the day? Or do you just want to listen to people chatting about Discworld. Well, then we have something for you.

The July episode of Discworld Order is out now! Comic creators @brandtandstein.com joined Mark to discuss the 26th Discworld novel, Thief of Time. They discussed the nature of comedy, what it means to be human and the Way of Mrs Cosmopolite. 📦 bit.ly/4flNBmM 🍎 bit.ly/44M3D3n 🟢 bit.ly/4aFwxFL

Just a heads up, the July episode of Discworld Order will be about a week late. Sorry about the delay, its a combination of factors.

When I 1st posted this I forgot to mention that High Vaultage co-author @jensugden.bsky.social was a great guest on Discworld order where she diacussed the 1st Diacworld novel that she read: Maskerade

Last weekend I shared some books that remind me of Discworld and Terry Pratchett. So the question is, what books have you read recently that remind YOU of Discworld and Terry Pratchett?

I just spotted the new UK Discworld paperback editions in the wild. I'm loving the silhouette on the spine.

Discworld QOTD, from Going Postal

“average discworld resident escapes death 3 times a year" factoid actualy just statistical error. average discworld resident escapes death 0 times per year. Wizzard Rincewind, who lives on the run & escapes over 10,000 times each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

Thank you to any new followers. This is the account for Discworld Order, a podcast where a guest joins me (Mark) to discuss the Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels. In order. Guests have included authors such as Jen Sugen (High Vaultage), Adrian Tchaikovsky & Aliette De Bodard.

Transworld donated 10,000 copies of Unseen Academicals. Which feels like a very deliberate choice as the book, at its heart, is about characters growing and becoming more successful by embracing new things or by reading.

In this month's episode, returning guest & former local journalist Cam Sutcliffe joins Mark to discuss the 25th Discworld novel, The Truth. Topics include how the book captures the feel of local journalism, class & Pratchett’s side characters. 🍎 bit.ly/3RTKUQb 🟢 bit.ly/3PPpl2M 📦 bit.ly/4fkrqOw

I'm at an interesting stage where I have 15 Discworld books left but only 2 sets of guests confirmed (& 1 of those is for next year). I guess that I need to start planning in terms of reaching out to more guests.

Do you need something to listen to on a weekend drive, or while you finally do that chore that you were saving for a warm, sunny day? How about a Discworld podcast where Aliette De Bodard discusses discovering Pratchett, how the Discworld influenced her and how Pratchett avoided feeling stale

So I finally visited the Uffington White Horse after saying that Ive wanted to go for years. Its best seen from a bit further away, but I brought something as a bit of a context clue.

This month on Discworld Order, award winning author @aliettedebodard.com joins us to discuss the 24th Discworld novel, The Fifth Elephant. We talk about the "trick" to Captain Carrot, Pratchett's strengths & how the Discworld stayed fresh. 🟢 bit.ly/48y8DuO 🍎 bit.ly/4vXyXZj 📦 bit.ly/4vYPGvz

So, how would YOU rank the Discworld Witches novels? Wyrd Sisters Witches Abroad Lords & Ladies Maskerade Carpe Jugulum

Im attending my 1st Eastercon (& my 1st SF/F convention) this weekend. Friday was 3 for 4 in terms of panels mentioning Terry Pratchett. I always forget just how popular Pratchett was, even at events full of fans of SFF.

Your mileage may vary on how long you can listen to me talk. I get it. But... Granny Weatherwax vs vampires! Pratchett vs fascism! Verence vs Big Aggie's brose! Mark vs keeping me on topic! Carpe Jugulum is dark, weird, creepy and hilarious. Hope we did it justice.

This month on Discworld Order, @sarahparkin1.bsky.social returns to discuss Carpe Jugulum. It's our longest episode as we chat about Granny Weatherwax, vampires, AND the Witches novels in general. 🍎 bit.ly/4v3Ssiu 🟢 bit.ly/4bXnG29 📦 bit.ly/3Of6Bc0

Keep an eye out on Wednesday as its the BIG one: Carpe Jugulum with @sarahparkin1.bsky.social And when I say "The BIG one," I mean that this episode is just over THREE HOURS of Discworld, Vampires & Granny Weatherwax.

This months episode of DWO was on the last of the Rincewind novels. So, what is YOUR favourite Rincewind novel?

This month’s episode PD Doling joins Mark to discuss the 22nd Discworld novel, The Last Continent. They discuss the limitations of Rincewind, the joys of the faculty, Pratchett moving away from characters and Damien Hirst. 🟢Spotify bit.ly/4cUurDQ 🍎Apple bit.ly/4r2UiwU 📦Amazon bit.ly/3MCXOQB

Discworld Order returns with episode 20. Cam Pollard joins Mark to discuss the 21st Discworld novel, Jingo. They discuss Pratchett getting his teeth into War, Pratchett's greatest idiot, and why Sybil Vimes was under utilised. 📦 bit.ly/4aGoatP 🟢 bit.ly/4tuAWmJ 🍎 bit.ly/4rNH1sV

January's episode of Discworld Order is already out. Dr Jane Carroll provided great context and perspective as we discussed the 20th Discworld novel, Hogfather. Please note that there won't be a regular episode coming out in January.

Ho Ho Ho! Discworld Order Episode 19 on the Hogfather is out NOW as a Christmas treat. Dr Jane Carroll, an associate professor in Children's literature, joins Mark to discuss Pratchett's Christmas novel. We talk about Dickens, latin puns, bickering & where this ranks among the Death books

I was incredibly lucky to talk to one of my favourite current authors about my favourite author ever. I love doing this podcast as I get to talk to people with different perspectives and opinions on Pratchett.

The incredibly prolific author Adrian Tchaikovsky (@aptshadow.bsky.social) joined me to discuss the 19th Discworld novel, Feet of Clay. We discussed Golems, world building, class, the Vimes - Vetinari dynamic & much much more. Spotify: bit.ly/4pFMX66 Amazon: bit.ly/4opdXFW Apple: bit.ly/4osxGEC

Monday sees the release of our next episode. Adrian Tchaikovsky joins me to discuss Feet of Clay. I can't wait for people to listen to this one. I may be just a little bit of a fan of Adrian's...

If you're keeping up with the podcast, then you know what episode is coming out on Monday. If you don't, then this is a hint. Yes, this statue was in my hotel when I was on holiday. No, I did not know this when I booked the hotel.

@jensugden.bsky.social , co-writer of High Vaultage & Victoriocity, joins us to discuss the 18th Discworld novel, Maskerade. We talk about crafting jokes, managing fan favourites & the complicated depiction of Agnes Nitt. Spotify: bit.ly/4oIhoIf Amazon: bit.ly/47EkzKk Apple: bit.ly/47jN4hl
