Another thing to note: The internal investigation finished in under a month. Because of the SPOG contract, It takes SPD up to TWO YEARS to fire cops with nearly the same evidence of criminal behavior.

The ex-girlfriend of a Mulkiteo cop found her younger sister's nudes on his phone. Now he's facing a criminal investigation.

It gets worse. This happened in August 2025. He emotionally blackmailed her into staying with him by threatening suicide. She didn’t move out until June of this year, and didn’t feel safe reporting him until August 2026.

Is there some party we can vote for that supports cutting ICE in half? Trump only surpassed Obama’s deportation numbers this year.

Erica is complaining about not getting credit for a story that she published last Friday, when she didn’t credit us for breaking the same story a month ago. She ghost edited it to credit us after we badgered her about it.

Good News: Lt. Matthew Didier will face discipline for saying it was time to "fuck people up" at the Cal Anderson protest last May. Bad News: We still don't know what that will be and it will probably be light. open.substack.com/pub/divestsp...

We broke the story about the comments in November 2025. We identified him. We filed public records requests to determine that he was disciplined for it. We followed this from start to finish. Erica read an OPA report & emailed a PIO www.divestspd.com/p/go-in-heav...

Let's be clear: King County Detective Shawn Peckham is not a misogynist. A group of women simply conspired to kick him off an Alaska Airlines flight for elbowing a flight attendant and calling her a "bitch." But he swears he loves his mama, his daughter—and his ex-wife

More video. This guy's contempt for women, particularly Black women, is obvious. When he was alone with the male cop, he said the female officer wouldn't make a good detective (she is the detective here). He kept calling her "girl" and claimed a witness wasn't "white guy friendly"

Tasers are sold as "non-lethal alternatives" for dealing with serious threats. Often they're just used to punish people who objectively aren't threats for not complying fast enough. See this clip we got from Kirkland:

"Experts say..." The Seattle Times' police coverage was never much to brag about, but now they have interns writing drone propaganda.

Gladwell compares Munich to Phoenix: roughly the same size, but Munich has a much bigger police dept. What if the US just hired more cops? he asks. But just look at budget. Munich's police are state police, and Bavarian State Police are ~5% of the Bavarian budget. Phoenix PD? 20% of Phoenix's!

In every other year that had about 4,000 applications, SPD hired 83-84 officers. (~2%) With only slightly more applicants, Shon Barnes hired double that (3.7%) w/o any significant change in recruitment strategy or screening. Also, police sources told Hana Kim that Barnes lowered standards.

Good Work Dept.@goodworkdept.bsky.social

“300 in two years” is a hiring pace, not a quality standard. The missing artifact is the written screen: entry criteria, training completion, and what disqualifies a candidate before deployment.

Are we to believe that absentee chief Shon Barnes just discovered some secret sauce that doubled the number of qualified applicants? Nah, he was running the same dumb ad campaigns as Sue Rahr, but Rahr, who oversaw police training for WA state, was more selective

Bob Kettle is so full of shit. And his endorsement of hiring cops at breakneck speeds (300 in two years) without regard to quality makes the city objectively less safe.

“The budget proposal from the mayor adds officers, just to be clear,” @cmeddielin.seattle.gov “So we are not defunding anything about the Police Department, correct?” “Correct,” Doss said.” Glad CM is keeping Seattle’s Public Safety Committee focused on facts www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news...

“before SPD threw protesters to the ground” Factually incorrect. SPD made most of its violent arrests around 1:30. Didier made this statement at 2:20. They didn’t make more arrests until about an hour later.

Erica C. Barnett@ericacbarnett.bsky.social

Seattle police lieutenant Matthew Didier, caught on camera telling his fellow officers “We’re here to fuck people up” before SPD threw protesters to the ground and arrested them at an anti-trans rally last year, has been disciplined—with a verbal reprimand.

Dogs are more effective at deterring crime and cheaper than cops. Maybe that's why cops kill so many. Dogs are making them look bad.

Police Guild President Kent Loux blames the low homicide clearance rate this year on "short staffing." There are 15 homicide detectives and 33 homicides. In case you're really bad at math, that's two cases per detective.
