The soaring costs of public universities is a political decision. When these schools predominantly served white students, they tended to be free (UC, CCNY, etc.) But as the number of students of color has increased, funding for the public universities has decreased. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/25/b...

Can confirm! I received such a scam email using a real person's identity (and a gmail account) and promising me a spot on their podcast. I have reached out to them by their known academic email - will be interesting to see what I hear back, as I strongly suspect they know nothing about this!

Authors, There is a massive surge in AI-generated scams from people impersonating podcasters or reviewers or marketers offering to promote or boost books. For a fee. Then they disappear. Often from a Gmail account. I know we all want our books to be better promoted, but don't fall for these scams.

When candidates call for a tuition free AND debt free college education they are calling for a policy that is more generous than Finland’s. In not saying it a bad idea. Just that we should keep in mind that students borrow even in tuition free social democracies like Finland.

Larry Glickman@larryglickman.bsky.social

The NY Times has repeatedly used the phrase “to heel” in reference to Trump’s crackdown on universities, implicitly clarifying that Trump goal is to establish dominance. And what exactly constitutes this “woke” ideology in higher education?
