How the double-header election will work next May. You will get two ballot papers. Different colours for the Assembly and Local Elections.

Diane Forysthe is a significant move. Calling for the FM to be removed and she would not be considered a hardliner. Does this spread across the Assembly group?

How on earth do these parties even cooperate in a few months' time at #AE27? Gavin Robinson and Jim Allister are worlds apart. #bbctheview

Strangford will be a cracking contest this time. Boundary changes have brought parts of South Down in, some of which favour SF. SDLP just missed out on this seat in the previous few elections.

SF got 1.2 quotas in South Belfast in 2022 on the old boundaries. What is more significant about this is that to get two, they'd more than likely need to take the Alliance second seat. In a raft of constituencies, we are seeing SF/APNI contests.

🚨 NEW: Pat Cullen and Deirdre Hargey to stand in Belfast South and Mid Down for Sinn Féin #AE27 @sinnfeinireland

Also, could this indicate the portfolio choices for the next Executive? Pat Cullen would be a good fit for Health Minister if she made it to the Hill.

Only one DUP MP in 2024 recorded a swing toward them: Carla Lockhart. She saw a 5% swing to her, compared with an 8.5% swing away from the DUP across NI. If she ever did walk, it would be a big electoral blow.

The DUP clearly don't want to walk out of the Executive over Drumcree. Walking away might offer some sugar-coated reassurance, but it will open a can of worms on reform that the DUP don't want to see.

Given the views in some quarters that Ireland should have a citizens' assembly on the Unity question, perhaps it would be worth following how this Cyprus process plays out for some possible pointers....? en.politis.com.cy/in-depth/cyp...

The SDLP have taken a real punt by deselecting Justin McNulty. Fortune in politics sometimes favours the brave, so it might pay off. Interesting to see what McNulty does ahead of the election.

The SDLP has deselected MLA Justin McNulty with Crossmaglen councillor Pete Byrne, who has been chosen to run in Newry and Armagh in next year’s Assembly election. Mr Byrne won the vote at a selection convention in Newry Golf Club on Thursday night.

25% of voters have already cast their ballots in Quebec ahead of polling day next week. Another example of why making it easier to vote work.

If this does come about it could have a transformative impact on WM elections in NI. The conversations about Unionist pacts would be totally altered and it could mean quite different results from what ppl are forced into under FPTP.

The 12th will be a holiday in a United Ireland. Not sure why anyone would realistically oppose it, even if you don't agree with the outcome of the event.

🗣️ “When you become a united Ireland, you can’t just become partitionist and say, well, they can celebrate that up north but not in the rest of the country.” The #MondayGR panel discussed the Garvaghy Road dispute and how Orange Order marches could be dealt with in a potential united Ireland.

I have watched tense, difficult debates in the Assembly chamber, but the matter of the day on Drumcree is up there. I haven't seen the DUP and Sinn Féin at each other like that in a long time. It's hard to see how these parties can govern together until May.
