After 3 years, 14 drafts, and 3 paper awards, I finally published this paper on the semiotics of (un)doing gender in my favorite journal—Sociological Theory! @sociologicaltheory.bsky.social doi.org/10.1177/0735...

New Open-Access Publication in Men and Masculinities! This essay was originally prepared as a conference paper for the 2025 ASA Sex & Gender panel on the 30th Anniversary of Masculinities. It was subsequently expanded after very constructive review feedback. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...
Also, @mandmjournal.bsky.social has the coolest cover design in the world and I've always wanted to publish something in it! So this is really a dream come true ❤️

This is the right call. Thank you, @zackpolanski.bsky.social. Astonishing that our government remains so cavalier about our environment with every climate-crisis indicator so much in evidence. We need green jobs that will improve our society, not employment that will make everything even worse.

Join us for a rally for a democratic ASA! We will have a disruption planned inside and outside of the ASA hotel. To avoid any protest policing, we will share the exact time and locations of the rally on August 6th RSVP for our rally here: tinyurl.com/ASARally2026 #BoycottASA
"In thematic analysis, theory is a matter of picking an epistemological and ontological position in qualitative research rather than examining how qualitative research draws from theory and contributes to theorizing." This is exactly why I don't like thematic analysis.
Iddo Tavory and I wrote about AI in qualitative data analysis highlighting the vulnerability of thematic analysis and the value of theorizing journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

My article "Gender Uptake: Theorizing the Semiotics of (Un)Doing Gender" received the Outstanding Article Award from the SSSP Gender, Sexual Behavior, Politics, and Communities Division AND an Honorable Mention for the Best Paper Award from the ASA Ethnomethodology & Conversation Analysis Section! 🥳
It took me 3 years and 14 revisions to publish this article, so it really means a lot to receive these recognitions! 🥰 doi.org/10.1177/0735...
Follow-up question: Does anyone know of any undergraduate research using either comparative-historical method or experimental method that was later published in a peer-reviewed journal? Recommendations for published undergrad work using other methods are also appreciated 🙂 #sociology #teaching
#Sociology friends: Do you have any former undergrad student (or yourself) who turned a BA thesis (or other undergrad work) into a peer-reviewed publication? I'm thinking about putting together a bibliography of peer-reviewed studies that started as undergraduate research👩🎓 #teaching #undergraduates

NEW from me in @pnas.org on the risks of data sharing with qualitative research: "Today, confidentiality risks are amplified by social media, surveillance, and AI tools, which make ample data about people publicly available, thus making deidentification less effective" www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

It was such a pleasure discussing the continuing importance of Stuart Hall's work and the Birmingham School for sociology at the current conjuncture with Ben Carrington, Gregor McLennan, and my colleagues Frankie Rogan and Nick Beech at the @britsoci.bsky.social conference yesterday! #britsoc26

The richest man owns X. The second and third richest men control Google. The fourth richest man owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. The fifth richest man owns The Washington Post. And now the sixth richest could soon take over both Paramount and Warner Bros. See the problem here?
Thrilled to see both of my ST articles are among the Top-10 Most Downloaded Articles in @sociologicaltheory.bsky.social in 2025!!! 🤩 www.asanet.org/top-download...
I'm especially excited to see my 2025 article on the semiotics of (un)doing gender got onto the list and superseded my 2020 article on hegemonic masculinity, even though it had only been published for three months journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...
