theguardian.comUK government failures led to Covid spreading ‘like wildfire’ in care homes, inquiry findsInquiry chair says failure to advise care homes to isolate people discharged from hospital was ‘significant oversight’

When Matt Hancock said that the government had put a “protective ring around care homes from the very start” we all knew it was not true. The Covid Inquiry has now backed this up criticising his claim as "unfounded".

Research looks at new analysis of cancers occurring before the age of 50 and explores what might be driving changes in the number of new cases. Does this reflect better diagnosis or something else? @cancerresearchuk.org @uom-dcs.bsky.social @cruk-mi.bsky.social @drkatemeeson.bsky.social See more 👇

WCRF research finds cancer incidence is rising among under-50s in England, with increases in several cancers including colorectal, breast and pancreatic. Causes remain uncertain, but the trend has major implications for prevention, earlier diagnosis and NHS capacity. www.wcrf.org/about-us/new...

2 / Strategy informed by iterative engagement and offers replicable model for embedding inclusive practices across research lifecycle, leading to more equitable participant recruitment, enhanced research relevance, and health research with greater impact for all, including under-served populations.

"Equity and inclusion demand attention. Community-based research can help fill knowledge gaps in less well-researched areas, test innovations in real-world settings, and ensure that diverse populations are represented in studies and that the benefits of research are shared more widely".

What could the shift from hospital to community mean for research and innovation? Our long read from earlier this year offers a menu of ideas for future action: https://bit.ly/4hT85VS

UK: Long COVID severely impacts healthcare staff. 🔸1 in 4 (27%) surveyed UK healthcare workers reported long COVID, with serious consequences for their health, work and home lives, and NHS workforce overall. 🔸Globally, around 40% of healthcare workers in multiple studies experienced long COVID.

Really enjoyed #IFPH2026 & networking with / speaking to so many different people on stalls, presentations, at posters, while drumming, or over a refreshment break! Amazing to think we all have something to contribute to the PH debate despite our diversity. Going away hot, tired, but inspired!
