The new study “found that being in good shape during middle age was associated with about a 2 to 3 percent improvement in both health span and lifespan, translating to about a year and a half to two years of longer, healthier living.” www.washingtonpost.com/wellness/202...

part of me believes that if every American could have a gap year in which they experience functional mass transit, including high speed trains, it would transform the way we get around in this country inside a generation

Once more, for visibility: "Bullet trains will wipe out short-haul flights."

That notwithstanding, it is the ultimate hubris to conclude that only we humans can be conscious or sentient: a multitude of creatures living among us possess those properties to varying degrees (and we already treat multitudes of them with questionable ethical consideration).

“In the creative disciplines, L.L.M.s take away the most soulful human parts of the work and leave the drudgery to you,” Dash says. “And in coding, L.L.M.s take away the drudgery and leave the human, soulful parts to you.” www.nytimes.com/2026/03/12/m...

Was in a retail store the other day. As I was leaving, I noticed that the salesperson who had been helping me was wearing Meta Ray-Ban glasses (I saw the cameras). Not sure how I feel about that.

Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is it’s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism. We have to sustain each other. Making joy isn’t denial, it’s how we will survive

Fully agree with this. I also hope someone who is not me build an omni-Fediverse client for all the different protocols so we can have a unified experience if we so choose. Also I wish the name IndieWeb had won over Fediverse but whatever.

My feeling, which I expect will encounter some resistance for a while, is that if Bluesky succeeds (for whatever definition of "success"), it's just part of the fediverse. Email has thrived for decades with multiple protocols behind the scenes; there's no reason open social networks can't do so too.

Having fun experimenting over here. Are there any #BlueSky client apps that support iPad? Most of my social stuff is done on iPad and the tiny iPhone size app window is making me sad! #app #iPad
