New paper in Nature. The more a government controls its domestic media, the more it dominates AI training data, the more pro-regime outputs we get from AI. By scraping the open web, LLMs are unwittingly laundering state-coordinated narratives into seemingly objective answers.

Elevating this classic. Have you read Bonfire of the Vanities? No. Which Tom Wolfe book is your favorite? His latest. Bonfire of the Vanities? Yes.

The worst effing liar I have ever witnessed. This formed my opinion of him in the late 80s

Parsimony: the explanation for the media spectacle bears the same burden. The facts are so thin... We cannot responsibly take the story as given either. Maybe we should ignore it.

Reminder: Occam's Razor, and logic, demand that you start from simple explanations. Also, when you charge something - "this is a false flag/op/whatever" - the burden of proof is on the accuser, not on everyone else to prove it *isn't* a conspiracy. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Reporter: What do you make of Republicans saying that Virginia— AOC: Wah wah wah. We have asked Republicans for 10 years to ban partisan gerrymandering. And for 10 years, Republicans have said no. What they’re just mad at is that they have been accustomed to a Democratic Party that rolls over.

Make American Gas Astronomical #Congatulations #AchievementUnlocked This is how we will switch to electric transportation, renewable generation. We won't need Israel to protect our interests in the Middle East, and the US can decouple from global energy markets.

I do not think it will work for the simple reason the Iranians need to establish deterrence to ensure we don’t simply bomb the hell out of them every six months forever and that means making an example of Donald here and now to the extent possible.

Schnorkles O'Bork@schnorkles.bsky.social

Think it's pretty clear that Trump is trying to lie and spin it as a complete domestic victory and yell fake news and actually probably give Iran most of what they want because they desperately want the Strait open.

Regret to inform everyone that Peter Magyar beat the world’s smartest illiberal populist in large measure by working incredibly hard for 2 straight years, meaning the rest of us are just going to have to get off our asses and do shit rather than just complaining.

Where does this actually come from? IFStudies.org? I think they took it down. I can't find it. Maybe they don't like @hankgreen.bsky.social ?

My hottest “I have no data to back this up” take is that phones aren’t making young people less happy. What’s making them less happy is living in a world where everyone is having their reality defined by recommendation algorithms that can only care about whether something keeps you watching.

Reminder: the gate to/from psychosis is reality testing. How you perceive reality is very key. How can "vibecession" be any more gaslight? Is this any more than claiming anyone who feels economically pinched is crazy? Maybe its implying the poor aren't people/human?

This is a rehash of the vibecession debates but median household income adjusted for inflation hit a record in 2024 (2025 data will be released in September). It’s just *not true* in any objective sense that people don’t have money anymore. It may *feel* that way but that’s different from reality.

A reminder that as Americans we pay double per capita for healthcare than every developed nation on Earth, AND have the lowest life expectancy. We're getting robbed & bled literally to death by the exploitative for profit system we have. We demand universal healthcare as a human right. Period. 2/2
