I miss David’s sage like scientific wisdom. A huge loss to the Cell biology community.
Please see our latest paper on TANGO1. This work was instigated by the great, late David Stephens and we're so happy his legacy continues. Congrats to first author @lizzielawrence.bsky.social and co-authors @hammofish.bsky.social, Esther, Judith, and Lorna! journals.biologists.com/jcs/article/...

PhD recruitment is now open at the Crick, and we're looking for people to join a community of researchers tackling big scientific questions in the heart of London. Apply by 3 November: www.crick.ac.uk/careers-and-... Find out more about the three routes into our 2027 PhD programme in this thread ⬇️
It's a great meeting in a wonderful country - so sad I cannot attend in 2027 because of a diary clash!
The 7th edition is in place!. It wil be held in Marbella, Chile next year and will be again part of the EMBO workshop series. The organizers are @monicamsousa.bsky.social, Kassandra Ori-Mckenney and Tomas Falzone. Registration is already opened neurocytoskeleton.com/2025/

Dear #CryoEM and #Microtubule enthusiasts, I’m thrilled to have been part of this exciting journey: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6... We discovered and characterized a manchette-like microtubule machinery in Xenopus spermatids, likely involved in sperm reshaping and membrane reorganization. (1/3)

I know what you mean!
Signing the Royal Society's Charter Book (created in 1663) earlier this month was a very moving experience. It contains the signatures of every other person we have learned about in school science lessons, and there was strong sense of "why on Earth am I here...?" Thank you so much to my team! 🥹
How do poxviruses initiate infection after getting into the cytoplasm? With Tom Calcraft, @miguel-virus-cells.bsky.social & Peter Rosenthal, @crick.ac.uk we solved the structure of the vaccinia virus portal that mediates viral assembly and early mRNA and subsequent genome release. rdcu.be/fwGTn

Scientists at the Crick have identified three crucial proteins that make up the ‘portal complex’ in the vaccinia poxvirus. The finding could lead to new ways of treating other poxviruses like mpox which have similar portal complexes. https://bit.ly/45vMhbi

Not to ignore how upsetting and unethical this is, but there is some dark humor in the western blot GIF, or? To me, it pairs well with a jingle like www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNv2...
The Thermo Fisher situation keeps getting worse. We've now collected 450+ problematic images presented as verification data in TF's antibody catalog. This includes: 🖌️ Dozens more images with duplications or painting 🖨️ Hundreds of blots that all share the same background (behold slideshow below)
