'Dust my house, my AI robot watches' sounds like a rejected Phillip K Dick title

Tom Cox@dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social

I dust my house. My AI Robot watches. "It should be you doing this." "Can't. I'm writing a novel for Primark." "That's not why you were invented." "These 153,000 fan letters say otherwise." "They're all from upcycled toasters. And you programmed them." "Literary snobbery will get you nowhere."

eBay users! Don't ignore today's email, even though it looks like a boring standard update to the User Privacy Notice. They want to use your data to train AI models. If you click the link over the words "the right to object", it takes you to a page with a toggle button letting you opt out.

The pitch here seems to be, ‘we’ll build the houses and infrastructure we failed to build during the 14 years we were in government, but we’ll do it in the most damaging and lowest quality way possible’. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

You know you've watched too much YouTube when you have a very vivid dream of Joe Rogan going mental and attacking ships at sea, and taking Jeffery Epstein with him. That's what I get for re-watching all the Elephant Graveyard vids I suppose. Sticking to star trek this week

What scene makes you emotional no matter how many times you see it? There are several, but this normally does it. It's the whole scene leading to this, Kirk realising Spock is missing from the bridge, the frantic run to Engineering, Scotty's "he's already dead!" kills me every time

how is this a surprise? Many slave traders who got rich selling human beings founded banks and financial institutions, at least 3 from Liverpool (the Heywood Brothers, Thomas Leyland, John Moss) all set up banks. Once these monsters had that much money what else where they going to do

theguardian.comSlave-trade wealth was embedded in Britain’s financial system, research findsDozens of Bank of England directors and founding subscribers invested in trafficking of enslaved Africans

Have you ever watched something and a character says something so unbelievably dumb it doesn't just break your suspension of disbelief it completely demolishes it? Was re-watching Stargate SG1 and had that exact feeling... /1

And is now referred to as 'migration period'. Would a historian with Jackson's knowledge slip up like that? Also it just reels of late 90s/ early noughties 'new athiesim' and frankly a it's white supremacy.. /4

Yes western Europe regressed, but the 'eastern Roman empire' didn't fall, China didn't regress, the Arabic counties remained well ahead of western Europe scientifically, why doesn't he account for these? /5

Daniel Jackson came out with this absolute clanger: if it wasn't for the dark ages there's a chance we'd be colonising space by now. 800 years where science was seen as heresy.." Oh boy where to start with that one../2

Any actual historians please correct me, but I was under the impression that 'the dark ages' was used to refer to the period after Rome withdrew from western Europe and the papal mission to Anglo Saxon England, 'dark' because there was little to no recorded history for that period .. /3
