When you start making art, everyone tells you to make it from your heart and it will find its audience. What they don’t tell you is how much it feels like a rejection of your inner being when that art doesn’t connect. I still haven’t recovered from releasing an album to radio silence last year.

And yet…. Here I am with 5 new songs fully mixed, and I’m dreading sharing them with the world. All the people who’ve worked on them say they’re the best I’ve ever made, but I can’t face that rejection again. Seriously don’t know what to do with them.

It’s absolutely criminal, and I cannot support any artist, musician, or actor who partakes. It needs to stop.

I genuinely hate the push to make smoking a thing again. I have watched so many drawn out, ugly, painful deaths from smoking. It makes everything disgusting. It enslaves us to the worst kinds of corporations. There’s ZERO positive here.

No one asked me, and few people will see this, but I’ve always preferred the word “queer” to “gay”. I’ve never fit into anyone’s norms, so a label that’s a synonym for odd feels the most appropriate. It can also replace all the letters in the ever-growing initialism that has never worked for me.

Dividing us all up into separate letters and then arguing about who gets included will always piss me off. I don’t care what makes you queer. I just love you for whatever version of yourself brings you the most joy.

Any headline that starts with “Trump concedes” is journalistic malpractice. Maybe “Trump temporarily gives in” or “Trump appears to concede”. The man is as inconstant as a toddler.

More brilliant writing from @stevenhyden.bsky.social Just last week, I was trying to decide if Metamodern Sounds or Sound & Fury would top my list. I’ve listened to the former more, I’m sure. But the latter hits me in the gut like few albums can. Thankfully, I don’t ever have to decide…

This is what makes me the most pessimistic about this country. Getting rid of Trump won’t solve our problems. We’re rotten at the core.

Donald Trump didn't break the political system on his own. Our broken political system is why we have Trump.

No. Commonsense reform is to burn ICE to the waterline and scatter the rubble so that all of us who value a constitutional republic with a Bill of Rights can prevent such a monstrosity from ever being constructed again. And nothing above is hyperbole. God, but you are not a leader for this time.

Chuck Schumer@schumer.senate.gov

Democrats want commonsense reform for ICE: End the roving patrols and racial profiling. Take accountability and abide by the same rules as local police. Masks need to come off, body cameras need to stay on—no secret police in the United States of America.

My parents named me after Dwayne Hickman, the actor who played Dobie Gillis, the ever-aspiring ladies man. I turned out gay. 🤣

EXPLAIN YOUR USERNAME I grew up in Normal, IL. When I joined that other social media site, John Q. Normal was already taken. My dad’s dad was named Ward.

Been listening to a lot of old Son Volt lately, and I’ve enjoyed being reminded of why I love Jay Farrar’s songwriting so much. I gotta say… of all the songs that I wish weren’t still relevant, “Atmosphere” is near the top: “Getting that old time feeling again Mad men on both sides of the fence”

Welp, I put out an album yesterday. I thought it was pretty special. Number of people reaching out to congratulate me = 0 Number of shares to any media = 0 Number of comments on my posts = 0 Message received, loud and clear. Pipe dream dismissed. Time to move on.

It’s been well over a year in the making, and the first single came out nearly 12 months ago, but my new album is done and ready to share with the world! The album is a journey from discord to peace and presence, and I’m extremely proud of what it represents in terms of my growth as a musician.

AI is like a Trolley Problem for media CEOs, except they don't realize the options are actually "stop the trolley" or "the trolley runs me over six months after I let it run over my employees."

These idiots got defunded and learned nothing from it. I’m beyond disgusted.

President Trump is bucking tradition and legal precedent in pushing to deploy the National Guard to Democratic-led cities like Portland, Oregon, and Chicago due to what he says is rampant crime and to support his crackdown on illegal immigration.

Fret not, though. I have since developed an adult palate and tried many cuisines. I even took a 10 day trip to Lagos, Nigeria, that included eating some of the world’s hottest food, all of which was delicious. I can handle pepperoni now. 😄

John’s music is always a salve, but this one is extra special and much needed in these darkest of times.

I give to you today my new album, Transparent Towns. In a hallowed hall on the prairie, with an inspiring cadre of musicians, and against the incandescent Oklahoma summer, we cut an album of songs that held weight while maintaining weightlessness. May you find something for yourself within it.

You know you’re a hopeless songwriter when: 1. You spent the week reviewing (and approving!) final masters for the new album 2. You spent the morning promoting the latest single from that album And yet… 3. You spend the afternoon working on writing a new song May the muse never give up on me!
