When democrats do this it - depresses the base vote - doesn’t attract a single gop/swing vote - validates gop hate rhetoric - pushes young kids towards suicide - is immoral Otherwise it’s a great strategy for lining the politics of shit consultants

Elections are about contrast. We already have one hate filled bigot train of a party — we don’t need two (we don’t even need one)

Sara B@sarabjustone.bsky.social

It’s actually quite the opposite. The best thing any Democrat can do is just not sound like a Republican, no matter what Republicans are nattering on about currently. I wish they would understand this.

Brazil’s results tonight are a big endorsement for the idea that every country should have a second “are you you sure about that” election a couple weeks after the first one for the important stuff

I actually just saw the Todd video earlier today and pointed at the screen when Ice Cream Man showed up

First up was "Who invented the Itchy and Scratchy board game?" by Hollandspiele. A delightfully odd trip down a rabbit hole of unattributed "facts" online. Next was the latest "One Hit Wonderland" by Todd in the Shadows, about the long-forgotten disco hit "Makin' It" by David Naughton.

Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.

Report cards are done. Homework for the week ahead is posted. Lesson plans for tomorrow are as ready as they need to be. Laundry is put away. Plants are watered. If anyone needs me, I'll be adamant that you don't.

This message goes out to my GOP family, all of whom attended the University of Illinois back when you could get a world-class education and pay for it with a part-time job, because the top marginal tax rate was >3 times as high as it is now.

Abolish prisons except for the one we build specifically for Stephen Miller.

I think people intuitively understand that democratic candidates tossing trans kids to the wolves is not only morally repugnant but also politically ineffective, otherwise they wouldn't freak out every time someone said they weren't voting for a democrat who did this

Last night I watched two YouTube videos, both uploaded within the last couple days, by totally unrelated channels, about totally unrelated topics, that both included clips and references to the Clint Howard movie "Ice Cream Man" (1995), which I had not heard of before last night.

While I remembered both the song AND the sit-com "Makin' It," and was a fan of "American Werewolf in London," I had forgotten that David Naughton was the face of the "Be a Pepper!" ad campaign of the 70s. "It's like if Jake from State Farm released an EDM song and then starred in Backrooms."

one thing I will say about the preemptive pardon bullshit is it is not the behavior of a group of people who have a definitive plan to retain power forever

For the country that produced The Failure of Reconstruction and the We Need to Look Forward Not Backward franchise, this is a continuing worry.

History doesn't reset the day after Trump. It's not automatic back to normal, yay democracy won. We will still have a republic that is gravely wounded and bleeding out. Defeating the current assailant doesn't mean you've stopped the bleeding. The wounds are still there and still potentially fatal.

The idea of the AI developer as someone burgeoning with wonderful, never before seen ideas who just needed the tools to realize them is by and large a fantasy. The reality of the AI developer is someone producing spam at volume who has no ideas of their own, so just clone something popular.

I wish I was exaggerating, 16 games from one dev, all AI slop, all clones of something else, all pumped out in the space of months. That's my experience of what AI tools are enabling, not creativity, not anyone's dream game, but spam. Constant, low effort, neverending, AI generated spam.

I simply don't need Bill Clinton's (conveniently also weirdly homophobic?) takes on treating the White House with respect. I just don't.

Buddy describing his upcoming 2-week Caribbean cruise, and I had to say, "with all the love in my heart and a sincere hope that you have the best vacation ever, I cannot think of anything I would less want to do than that."

2 weeks of heat and sun, stuck in a massive petri dish and surrounded by the kind of people who love 2-week cruises? I'd rather be grading labs and writing report card comments, which is what I'll be doing.

Please, with sugar on top, just once: "It doesn't matter who I'm with. Can you just answer the question?"

In today's LGBTQ+ affinity space, students asked about college, and I think I did a pretty good job of saying "life will be better if you get away from your parents" without flat out saying it. Then another teacher added "college was great because I got away from my mom." She just ... said it.
