*standng up on the plane* it's a common misconception that "the spectacle" refers to like, tiktok or ads or reality TV whatever, but that's not what de bord is getting at. the spectacle is the dominant social relationship which is conveyed via image. ok it's easier if i just read. in societies whe

I hope you two don't mind me saying this, but Mena and Liv are basically the opposite of nepo baby publishing circlejerkers. They have been working their asses off for years on this shit without a safety net and I'm beyond thrilled to see their ship come in.

From NY Times article on newly-reopened Goya Museum in Spain: If I already had plenty of reason to dislike "immersive" art experiences, looks like for this projected image they inexplicably tweaked the colors in Goya's famed "Third of May" painting. Why..?? Art museums get ever closer to Disneyland

listen I know Chow is also problematic but not 'privatize your water' type shit. anyway she has one of the wildest media collections of any current mayor

this is your regularly scheduled reminder to Americans that if you are going to opine about Canadian politics you should learn about Canadian politics and not project American political assumptions onto us, thank you

sit me down with a friend and I can talk them through their thoughts, crack jokes, and maybe have a worthwhile insight every now and then. do the same thing but put a microphone in front of us and i will become a stupid asshole.

D&D resembles a western more than anything, a genre wherein the protagonists are defined by their lack of responsibilities.

Randomly I had this thought the other day like, that RPGs don’t often ask your characters to hold responsibility

the other day i was rolling down queen street and a dude came out of a vape shop, locked eyes with me, and said, "have a good day. if you don't, I will kill myself." I was pretty tired so all I could come with in response was "don't do that"

this advice is stupid and i hate that sentence fragments are suddenly ok in formal writing

LC von Hessen 𓆙 💀@lcvonhessen.bsky.social

So the "advice" doled out in this column makes me INCREDIBLY fucking angry as a former kid who was repeatedly taken to task by teachers for "inappropriate" drawings, culminating in a 9th-grade suspension spurred by Columbine paranoia and residual Satanic Panic. Arionne here says that was JUSTIFIED.

traumatized from fighting a war? a glorious troop, give this noble patriot a senate seat. sought therapy after childhood sexual assault by a family member? an inncorrigible lying bitch, constitutionally disqualified from public office.

having a president who is both head of state and head of government ends up leading to a situation where the president is an avatar of the nation and easily becomes a strongman (bad!). in parliamentary systems, the PM is always just some goober and we all know it.

I think we need to be done with a president. Checks and balances mean nothing.

Kevin Aho is not only one of the brightest living existential philosophers (imho), but also one of the kindest souls and best teachers. Here he strikes again, sharing his thoughts on body, self, and world... I'm reading and enjoying every bit... www.routledge.com/A-Phenomenol...

Because you all deserve something good today: Allan Rohan Crite's luminous & deeply felt "Streetcar Madonna," 1946. Crite was an African-American artist & illustrator based in the Boston area whose work consistently celebrated his religious faith

if men were not cowards they would also wear leggings when they did deadlifts so their shorts wouldn't snag on the bar

Micah@rincewind.run

oh do some women wear tight clothing to the gym so they can see how good they look in the mirror? and I suppose the various muscle shirts guys wear are, what, a coincidence? give people a “hell yeah” nod and move on

updike roth mailer lmao. the holy trinity of midcentury misogynists whose oeuvre dissolved into a bunch of books about how they were victimized by women and political correctness

I have developed some dumb neurological disorder wherein if I see too many people in one place I will get a seizure that will result in me going completely limp, like 100% ragdoll, which means I could make a really good corpse or perhaps possum costume

Wow! Texts are super rare for the Hittites, basically there’s just one archive and it’s 95% lists of prayer sacrifices to mountain gods, so this is really, really exciting!

the crazy thing about making time for any creative pursuit is that you literally have to do what you have a gut-deep yearning to do or else you'll see other people doing it, and it WILL make you insane.
