Based on satellite imagery provided by GHGSat for CAMS, the large methane leak observed in eastern Niger earlier this month has been contained. CAMS analysis confirms that the methane plumes stopped on 20 October. Read more: atmosphere.copernicus.eu/copernicus-a... @ecmwf.int
🎉 20 years of TIGGE. TIGGE has enabled researchers worldwide to compare ensemble forecasts, improve weather prediction, and better understand forecast uncertainty. Proud that ECMWF has played a key role as one of the archive hosts for this international collaboration. www.ecmwf.int/en/about/med...
ECMWF’s 9 km data is now free and open. The move will give more people access to accurate and localised forecasts. The resolution can make the difference, for example, between predicting rain in a large area and knowing which valley it will land in. Read more ➡️ www.ecmwf.int/en/about/med...
The summer of 2026 was exceptionally warm across western Europe, with several record-breaking heatwaves. In the latest Science Blog, ECMWF Senior Scientist Linus Magnusson reviews ECMWF’s prediction of these unusual summer temperatures. ➡️ www.ecmwf.int/en/about/med...
Introducing AIFS-COMPO, a new data-driven forecasting system for global atmospheric composition up to 10 days ahead. Adapting ECMWF’s AIFS to aerosols and reactive gases, AIFS-COMPO is trained on data from the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service. ➡️ www.ecmwf.int/en/about/med...
Today is #WorldFoodDay 🇺🇳 The World Food Programme (WFP) uses ECMWF data to monitor risks to food security globally. Our forecasts help WFP identify areas likely to experience drought or flood conditions, estimate populations at risk of food insecurity, and trigger anticipatory actions programmes.
ECMWF scientists have extended AIFS to jointly forecast the atmosphere, ocean waves, sea ice and key surface-ocean fields. The resulting prototype, AIFS Marine, expands the model state with a compact set of variables representing the surface ocean and sea ice. ➡️ www.ecmwf.int/en/about/med...
This week, ECMWF is taking part in Brussels Climate Week, joining policymakers, industry leaders, researchers and other key stakeholders to discuss how trusted weather, climate and environmental information can support a more resilient and sustainable Europe. ➡️ www.ecmwf.int/en/about/med...

🌫️ Air pollution knows no borders. Around 2 billion tonnes of sand & dust enter the atmosphere every year. In 2026, smoke from North American wildfires regularly reached the Arctic & crossed the Atlantic to Europe. Explore the CAMS #AtmosphereWatch: atmosphere.copernicus.eu/air-quality/... @ecmwf.int
CAMS Atmosphere Watch 2026 report is out now! This report was compiled by the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS), which is implemented by ECMWF. It provides an overview of key topics in air quality and atmospheric composition. ⬇️
🌫️ Air pollution knows no borders. In 2026 so far, 40% of global population was exposed to harmful ozone pollution, & wildfire smoke & desert dust affected regional and hemispheric air quality. 🔗 Explore the full story in CAMS #AtmosphereWatch: atmosphere.copernicus.eu/air-quality/... @ecmwf.int
