Did you know tarot can help you move through artist’s block or writer’s block? 🃏✨
In the latest episode of #YourArtIsASpell, I share three playful, intuitive ways to work with tarot and oracle decks in your artistic practice.
Orbs 01
A collection of photographs containing orbs that have manifested in images I personally captured.
I only have two available to collect on @teia.bsky.socialteia.art/objkt/836161
I'm intrigued by the possibility that these orbs might be attributed to mundane phenomena like glitches or reflections of light from dust or particles in the air, also known as "backscatter."
Conversely, I’m just as intrigued by the possibility that they could be indicative of something more enigmatic, such as spirits or ghosts. Or perhaps they represent the presence of ancestors or entities from alternative dimensions?

SPELL FOR THE NEXT 6,000 YEARS
This new artwork debuted yesterday as a part of the group show Holding a Bright Untroubled Sky curated by Amy Hale at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte.
This is a participatory installation, built as a living archive and an act of collective spellcasting.
As the vessel fills over the course of the exhibition, the accumulation of blue corn becomes a tangible, time-bending spell cast by all of us, addressed to the human and more-than-human beings, who will inherit this land 6,000 years from now.
I’ll be visiting in person at the end of the month, and I’m already imagining what that vessel will look like by then. If you’re near the gallery before I get there, go stand in the space, and add your grain of corn. 🌽🔮

The Nierika-inspired mural further weaves these ecosystems together, mapping flora, fauna, and energetic elements from both places into a unified cosmographic field.
My hope is to transform the gallery into an active altar. By asking the public to imbue a single grain of corn with a prayer, hope, or intention, the audience becomes an essential collaborator in the work.

The ceramic vessels ground the piece in its immediate location, honoring the 6,000 years the Catawba people have lived on that land and their long-lived ceramic practices.
In dialogue with this, the blue corn, a sacred ancestor from my own geographic and cultural lineage, serves as the physical medium to hold visitors’ intentions. Corn is an ancestral seed, filled with the energies of care, nurturance, sustenance, and a hope for our future survival.

The intention behind this artwork is to collapse time, inviting visitors to stretch their awareness into a deep future by anchoring themselves in a grounded, sacred present.
I selected materials that create a geographic and spiritual bridge between North Carolina and California.

“You look happier.” I’ve been hearing this a lot lately, and honestly? I really am. The secret is that I finally stepped back and started making art for me again, instead of for the algorithm and for public consumption
Have you ever said “I’m NOT an ARTIST, I can’t draw!”?
Well, I believe you have a mindset issue, not a technical one! 👇🏼
