Kabas is one of the best, shrewdest, and bravest independent journalists we have.

Marisa Kabas@marisakabas.bsky.social

I emailed Patrick Healy, assistant managing editor for standards and trust at NYT, to ask why their story about a House report with new details of rape allegations against the President of the United States included neither those details, nor a single use of the word "rape." archive.is/1s9AM

democrats worry that standing up to fascism may either hurt or help them politically and seem to be unsure which one is bad and which one is good

Julia Serano@juliaserano.bsky.social

...Assumption #4 has been driving me batshit, yet no one seems to realize it: if you're worried trans ppl might potentially harm your Dem candidate's chances, then YOUR CANDIDATE MADE A BAD DECISION! so why not join us in trying to get them to reverse position? juliaserano.medium.com/on-democrats...

Anthony's right: "this is what i mean when i say ai is a rhetorical technology. functionally this is a tool for *justifying deportation*, not a tool for assessing age. when someone is pitching an ai product, don't ask them what it's supposed to do. ask yourself what it's supposed to justify"

NEW: "Donald Trump was an active participant in Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse of young women during the mid-to-late 1990s," per new House Judiciary Dem report. Report has new allegation that Trump raped a 24-year-old and then promised the victim a visa & NYU admission, demanding she stay quiet.

"Do you wish Nathan Fielder had made a movie about you and not another con artist?" "No, not at all! I'm laughing, actually, at all you FUCKING MORON CIVVIES making FUTILE ATTEMPTS to process it, and the resulting, unbearably pedestrian takes. I'm not mad!"

Anna Delvey saying “justice-impacted woman” oh woke is BACK back

"Why isn't this movie about something else?" is the stupidest, laziest possible critical response to any film, but "And why isn't that other thing a deep dive into how very evil my political enemies are?" is a very close second unfortunately made possible by the first

do people with thousands, tens, hundreds of thousands of followers have strategies for responding meaningfully to the absolute deluge of responses to popular posts? I have never been and will never be that popular so this is purely baffled curiosity on my part

As discussions of rape have permeated this election season, Trump has remained constant in his loyalties. He described Max Miller as a “good person”; he “felt badly” for the Cornell 7; he called the ad with Acton’s birth mother “very powerful.” He excuses it because he identifies with the accused.

thehandbasket.coVivek Ramaswamy and the Grand Old Rape PartyAs Election Day closes in, the party's values have never been more clear.

The way this person went from 0-60 in response to a remark that politely and innocuously distinguished between two different empirical scenarios makes me wonder if the parents were really the problem in that situation.

Do all men have monsters inside them? No--there's no such thing. Woman experience all the same anger and pain and frustration we do, but they very, very rarely murder people about it, and men do it everyday. There was no monster inside him. This is male supremacy.

I think it's fascinating when things that are considered extremely kinky become completely mainstream, even attaining status as a primary interpretive metaphor of power/libidinal relations; when a dam breaks like that, it means something

and posting is NOT play. it is actually the most serious work that exists, because it's where truth and reality come from

1. chess should have an Eagle piece that can only move once and then exits the game; its move is to relocate any friendly piece to any other open location on the board 2. I wonder what smallest possible change to any aspect of chess would produce the largest increase in total possible games

<<...Markwayne Mullin said last month that there was an “ongoing investigation” related in part to whether Omar lied on her immigration forms and that “something’s going to happen.”>> In other words, they have no evidence any crime was committed; the Gestapo are looking for such evidence.

She is kind, humane, objectively brilliant, and a professional in an area where these are all especially important--a practicing attorney--and she's still being subjected to misogynistic lawfare from a hostile party who knows how to game the system. Please give if you can but observe in any case.

The sum total of all this is that a man decided to sue me because he didn’t like what I said. Another man helped him. And I’m the only person involved who’s faced any consequences. I’m the one who lost anonymity. I’m the one who can’t unlock my account. I’m the one who has had my speech chilled.

that's exactly what his entire political career has been: stupidity rewarded with blind, idiotic devotion because of its brazen cruelty, which thrills the worst people down into their defective souls

I am angry tonight. Because tonight ICE shot a New Yorker. They shot a New Yorker while his five year old child was in the car. ICE makes this city less safe. We want them out. Now.

I don’t think Zohran Mamdani has committed genocide

Chris Sommerfeldt@c-sommerfeldt.bsky.social

Pro-Palestinian protesters gather outside City Hall to call out Mayor Zohran Mamdani for what they see as his betrayal of the movement. "Mayor Mamdani, you can't hide we charge you with genocide" was a chant that just rang out.

When I was a teen, my dad told me--if I applied to art school or majored in art, he wouldn't help pay for college. And yes, it was kind of draconian. But it makes me wonder what we could achieve culturally if more parents gave sons similar ultimatums about joining fraternities.

marriage equality passed in NYS in 2011, DACA nationally in 2012. We're supposed to believe the trans and Latine genocides happening now are fucking organic coincidences? what we're all living through are vicious, powerful backlashes by white men against real empowerment that's unfolded recently

short version: this is crucial empirical research on a massive & influential network of people and organizations dedicated to manipulating the public's understanding of civil conflict, current events and social reality in order to empower fascists internationally. They have the receipts.

The “Cornell 7” framing rubs me the same way described in this thread. We usually use that language for people falsely accused of crimes. Personally, I’ll be going back to “the Cornell gang rapists.”

lilli 🤠@lillianbf.bsky.social

Time for another language lesson! Stop calling them the “Cornell 7” or I’m going to throw things at you.

n.b.: Trump's undisguised commission of sedition is a matter of plain public record, as are his dozens of felony convictions and ongoing blatant violations of the Emoluments Clause--and many other parts of the Constitution!

This aligns exactly with what we know about noncitizen voting; it is extremely rare (9 noncitizen votes in MN out of 3,253,920 in the 2024 election, or 0.0002%), and when it occurs it’s most often green card holders who were mistakenly told they could vote (none of these people are undocumented).
