my solution has become a simple one: don't read the internet. don't go on the internet. don't follow links. don't open your web browser. do not internet.

Preparing my GTA VI area for November 19 in the correct way - with a vintage Vice City Masonite poster.

The whole "the laid off devs can start indie studios" thing is bullshit not just because money, but because the state of affairs for indie devs has never been worse in terms of being able to support yourself financially. Even many "successful" games on steam can rarely support even a single dev.

please stop replying to game devs saying things like "well look on the bright side those laid off devs can start their own indie studios now" because eventually one of us is going to snap and "WITH WHAT FUCKING MONEY" would be a shitty last thing to hear before you die

It's genuinely very hard to see game development culture ever being the same again after the last few years. I don't think that's catastrophising, either, I think if anything that's downplaying how bad this is. The shedding of talent and institutional knowledge is disastrous.

RIP Richard Riehle. He deals with the god damn customers so the engineers don't have to. He has people skills; he is good at dealing with people. Can't you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people?

While I’m recommending underrated things, I can never give enough shout outs to Mr Inbetween. An Aussie series about a hitman that features incredible writing, acting, directing and cinematography. A truly great drama that deserves to be spoken about in the same breath as Breaking Bad in my opinion.

Look at you, hacker: a pathetic creature of meat and bone, panting and sweating as you run through my corridors.

Y'all should be watching this. Best longer-form videos on currently-relevant topics around.

Awww yesss. Went to pick up some stuff I got delivered from Kmart, nothing special, and when the guy scanned the package and handed it to me, the exposed part of the sticky bit of the package picked up his pen. Free low-quality BIC disposable pen! Picayune win of the day.

Sound clips from DOS games that have never left my head, 30 years on: - "Don't have time to play with myself." - "Xatrix Entertainment! Yup." - "Under my guidance, Britannia will *flourish*!" - [Monkey Island theme on PC Speaker] - "From God to Cain to Seth... I am his right hand."

...but absolutely nothing beats this one. Absolutely blown away by how lucky I was with this shot. One of my favourite photos I've ever taken. I can't wait to do some prints of this. #Leica #FilmPhotography #BelieveInFilm

Absolutely chuffed with the HP5+ roll I shot on the #Leica M6 and the new #Voigtlander Nokton 35mm lens. REALLY appreciating shooting with a 35mm lens,. I love the way you can see just how hot the day was when I shot this. The light just oozed hot Sydney day. #FilmPhotography #BelieveInFilm

Daylight savings fucking sucks. I do not want more daylight in the evening. Make the sun go away faster please. The less the better.

If I had the ability to monitor two independent timelines after making a change, I'd love to A/B test the cinematic success of the upcoming Miami Vice '85, in one universe as is and in the other where GTA VI either wasn't coming out or wasn't set in Miami, see how much impact it has.

Hi, I'm looking to speak to people who have left games journalism in the last few years and have gone onto do something else. DMs are open, or luke@aftermath.site, thanks!

Finally wrote about it, driving in Mafia III rules hard exalclaw.com/mafia-iii-fa...

exalclaw.comWhen The Scenic Route Is Worth ItFast travel isn't the worst feature to include, but Mafia III is a great example of why it can be worth forcing players to spend time traveling.
Wallace@exalclaw.com

The more I think about it the more it seems Mafia III is a rebuke against fast travel. Ive got no clue if it’s in the game at all based on where Im at, and nothing has indicated it’ll make an appearance, but I hope it doesn’t!

In the lead-up to GTA VI coming out, I am watching a big 'ole pile of South Florida-set movies, some for the first time, some as I haven't seen them in a while. First up: Body Heat. I'd never seen it before. My review? It's good.

Okay, so I should say more about it I guess. I love the vibes in this movie. The sweat, the lingering shots of people doing... whatever they're doing, whether it's driving, walking, watching, or fucking each other insensible.

It's an especially interesting film to see having grown up watching (and watching, re-watching, and watching some more) Wild Things. Lot of similarites, really. In a lot of ways this feels like a sweatier remake of Double Indemnity, and that's not a bad thing. Especially as it has a better ending.

I remember, years ago, watching Apple keynotes and, corpo-fap aside, often being excited for some new device or other. Have felt the complete opposite for basically a decade at this point.

Yesterday I got my XTEiNK 4 Pro. Simple enough eReader. Had a play with it, nuked the OS and seamlessly installed CrossInk instead, turning it into a MUCH better device. That? That's the good feeling. The only good feeling a device can give me these days. When it lets me do what I want with it.

It's not -gadgets- that I've lost excitement for, it's hating that what I"m usually being sold is just another hook, going into my skin, keeping me tethered to some corporate service or other.
