This is the quintessential CZM podcast: it makes you upset and hopeful in equal measure, in a way where you (I also mean me) are inspired to go do something in your (my) own community. Keep up the great work, @jamesstout.bsky.social !

New episode of Natural Causes 🌲 In the second of a two part series @jamesstout.bsky.social looks at the federal government's response to the Lochiel land defence and where people who care about the land can go from here. www.iheart.com/podcast/1119...

It struck me how much Matt Y laughing sounded like Tucker Carlson, because they are both too rich, white, straight, and cis... insulated from any consequences, they can believe in nothing and scoff at the though of anything that gets in the way of them making more money

Initially I was frustrated with the rise of self-checkout but I appreciated how stores passed the savings on to me rather than pocket the money, fire armies of workers & make me do a job I suck at. It’s also why I’m optimistic about AI! I have been kicked in the head by several horses.

for those beholden to nostalgia: trans lives are more important than any shit that makes the vile bigot JKR money, which she uses directly to *try to kill trans people* Surely you can find literally anything else to do. Eg, have you tried embroidery? heroin? or [something flock something]?

Ideally I don’t think politicians need to be emphasizing how masculine or feminine they are. This obsession with asserting traditional gender roles is a very clear conservative agenda and it’s a bunch of made up bullshit anyways

Korea's purple? Gorgeous. And then you see the close up and immediately see the Nike shoulders, steaming can only do so much. Too bad Nike doesn't know any human designer /s

Despite being in a bar and an admirable effort from the Telemundo announcer, we could still tell the fans are chanting the homophobic slur. Who is this game for, exactly?

"I am very sick of that poem about "First they came for…" I get why it's awesome and important and a call for solidarity. But you shouldn't come to the defense of the most vulnerable people because you might be next — you should come to our defense because it's the right thing to do" 🔥🔥🔥

As a science fiction writer I really fucking resent tech bros for ruining the phrase "artificial intelligence." 80 years of it being all about cool androids and interesting computers destroyed by five years of "Spicy autocorrect making everything shittier for money." NEVER FORGIVE.

I love how I can tell I live in a democracy because my vote doesn't count, my political views have no representation, and the congresspeople I have want me and my friends dead.

People arguing that data centers have use cases are arguing that DDT is an effective pesticide that still has use cases. Sure we'll destroy massive swaths of the environment, but at least, uh, some kids might kill themselves due to AI psychosis? But hey, at least you wrote a shitty email quickly.

People with names like 'the professor' living up to their names* (*by thinking they already know everything, refusing to learn anything new, arbitrarily exercising their power to punch down) Anyways, fuck ICE, go hug your pets.

Thomas Chatterton Williams: I am deeply incurios. Matthew Ygglesias: I am deeply incurious. It is difficult to get someone to undertand something when their salary depends on it. Hmmmm

my grand theory of the vibecession is that if you are a self-described 'finance bro' you should go f*ck yourself. Doubly so if you call yourself a member of the 'reality-based community.'

"I’ll correctly call it “X” when Elon Musk correctly names his daughter." 🔥🔥🔥 footnote from Dre (the rest of the article is great too!)

Max vs The Media and F1's insular world, the Super-clipping talk, Kimi Antonelli taking advantage of a Safety Car to run away in Japan, and the real issue with the 2026 regulations. So much so I got genuinely emotional writing this one. Let's talk about Japan. www.motorsport101.com/dres-race-re...

Verstappen threatening to quit because he doesn't have the best car, while Alonso suffers a thrashing to drag a tractor home-- one of these guys loves winning; the other loves racing.

eloïse@mercierdescloux.bsky.social

man that japanese grand prix was great i can't wait for the regs to get nerfed because max verstappen thinks there's too much overtaking and too many manufacturers wanting to join

Seriously same. Asking me to use AI is asking me to engage in self-harm.

victoria scott@victoriascott.bsky.social

I'm really glad I had ethical concerns about this stuff and avoided it entirely, because I have just enough mental illness that if I unquestioningly started using it a few years back I could absolutely see it killing me.

"if you could make money off of the theft and destruction of everything you love, would you do it?" Death to AI. While we're at it, abolish ICE.

Every Writer@everywriter.bsky.social

Writers if you could drop your novel or short story into an AI and have it make a great and watchable movie out of your story, and you could sell that movie, would you do it? #writers #WritingCommunity

Today I saw a 'New Zealander' compete for the US and a 'US-American' compete for China in the Olympics Countries are fake. Borders doubly so. Fuck ICE/CBP/DHS.

me: i am old, I do not understand any of this. also me: greatest halftime show ever. If there were better people in attendance, there would have been a riot for the people pa'lante

Cry, then fight. Or. Cry and fight. Cry, remember, tell people you love them. Fight for love, fight for freedom 💜

New Weird Little Guys: Cops & Klan @socialistdogmom.bsky.social @whysophiewhy.bsky.social podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/c...

As everyone who reads fiction knows, the good guys always wear masks and shoot people; whereas the bad guys try to protect their family and neighbors and friends.

It doesn't originate with me, but it's never wrong to feed people. Unfortunately, it'll be really important for all of us to help feed people in the coming days and months. I know it's rough out there for most people, but if you've got a little cash to throw at a local food bank, do it.

Google AI: The books you received 2 weeks ago should arrive by this coming Saturday. ChatGPT: The Blue Ridge Parkway (VA-NC) features cute Georgia towns. xAI: [openly Nazi shit redacted] oh but we're also still poisoning the people of Memphis FUCK AI.

Finally watched K-Pop Demon Hunter, and holy freakin' tiger, it rules! As a related note: can anyone out there point me to some great books on Korean mythology? Not looking for a bullet-point website, but in-print folklore, history, mythology, etc.

the post office is a public service. it doesn’t need to make money. public transit doesn’t need to make money. the library doesn’t need to make money. some things exist for the public good and we desperately need lawmakers to stop thinking about them in terms of capitalism. these are not businesses.
