please note that paypal is not the only way to receive the donated funds, and i think we’ll be fine. we also don’t want to make a big deal out of this because it’s a distraction. but this is infuriating.

i don’t know why it happened, but we all know that sex workers and sex work related projects are being penalized and pushed out of financial institutions and services, even when we aren’t using their services for anything sex work-related.

This is afterI logged in to CHR’s paypal account to set up a way to receive donations for @aileens.org to keep our peer-led drop-in community space by and for mostly homeless bipoc women open while i temporarily step away and focus on recovering from cancer.

hey folks, i’ve been very sick. i’m currently in hospital, my fourth since getting diagnosed in january. despite that my prognosis is good, as most medical issues are arising from side effects of chemotherapy and not cancer itself. …

… in the long term, i’ll need to figure out how to train more people to share the tasks i currently do alone so the organization is more robust and sustainable, but for now we need resources to get through this crisis. i hope that explains why we are asking for help gofundme.com/f/support-ai...

… but i have not been able to do all of the kind of backend work that has kept @aileens.org… afloat. since co-founding it in 2019, i have mostly handled the business end if the tasks, including grants, accounting, reporting, invoicing, etc. …

… and it worries me because we hire six people from communities we serve, mostly homeless women of color who are dedicated to the work and depend on the wage, not to mention hundreds of women who receive life-saving services and resources every year. i cannot let Aileen’s fall because of my health….

The report cautions that actual overdose death rate among American Indians/Alaskan Natives are much higher, though it is hard to know how much. Various data sources count AI/AN differently and they are often miscarried.

hey people in seattle area? @aileens.org a peer-run outreach and community space by and for women(+) working along the pacific hwy needs more clothes! our spot is buzzing and can’t keep up with the demand for gently used cute spring/ summer clothes. check your closet, ask around, donate!

… then why does trafficking sometimes happen in motels? well they happen everywhere including inside your suburban neighbor’s houses. we need to enlist them to help increase access to services and resources. .…

… i also noticed something… anti-trafficking campaigns targeting motels are often promoted by industry groups led by big chain hotels and private equity against small asian, poc, immigrant owned businesses catering to poorer, more poc and immigrant clientele. coincidence?

… or would traffickers pay them off for special treatment? now we are talking about two dumb economic actors both of which increase risks by doing that. at that point traffickers will use private residence not motels. …

… sure due to locations and lack of other customers some motels may discretely tolerate regular prostitution so long as they don’t cause problems. but nobody ever wants trafficking. no upside. …

So here's the funniest episode of not-so-funny LLM scam attempt involving fake me: apparently, the fake AI of me solicited SUSAN STRYKER to pay fake me $$$ to feature her book in my fake "book club" because yoiu know Susan Stryker could use some exposure from some fake Emi Koyama.

emi koyama@eminism.org

hey so… i’ve been receiving inquiries about a solicitation supposedly from me recruiting authors to pay several hundreds of dollars to be featured in “Portland LGBT+ Book Club.” it’s not me, and think it’s probably a scam. is this something other people are seeing as well? and what to do?

Even though I’m taking a break from day day of operation of @aileens.org the women are really stepping up! Our dropping space is as taxed as ever, bringing in you and old peers who live and work on Pacific Highway in South County, Washington State. …

… Which is amazing, except our stock of food, hygiene and harm reduction supplies, and donated clothes are dwindling faster than expected. I don’t need to fundraiser for my own medical expenses, but @aileens.org needs help to keep moments and going! Venmo/Cashapp aileenshome is the easiest…

… As for clothings, ask your friends and neighbors for cute clean stuff for women for spring/summer they don’t need, collect them, and drop off! we are in Federal Way but our volunteer may be able to pick up in seattle and elsewhere. Tents, blankets, tarps, shoes, boots, etc. are in high demand too.

Just received my forth inquiry from someone who received the scam email, which tells me there must be hundreds of recipients. And there’s nothing I can do about it on my end.

Now the number surpassed 10, and that’s just the folks who were interested in the “opportunity” excluding those who notified about scam. All this happening while I’m hospitalized for serious illness and don’t need any extra stress.

(and just to be clear I’m not so desperate that I need to scam authors. Fortunately I have 12 weeks of state paid medical leave, six weeks of additional sick and vacation pay, and a private health insurance from my work.)

fifth and sixth inquiries this morning. this is starting to cause real distractions and possible harm to my reputation.

ok seventh now. apparently the scammer’s gmail address is now blocked so they found another email for (real) me and contact.

Beth Cato@bethcato.bsky.social

I just found out that an AI scammer is impersonating me in their spam campaign. I am LIVID. Please, please share this post. Warn people. I’m horrified that someone might be ripped off in my name. No one is safe from being impersonated like this.

LLMs can “write” a thousand scam emails to try to trick authors desperate for audience, but they still need to attach my name to it because i have the reputation and legacy for producing real work over several decades.
