If you're looking for a Boulerice recommendation for a book that will occasionally crawl up the back of your unguarded neck to remind you about how unsettled you were while you were first reading it several years after the fact, Tatratea is for you. Alex OUTDID herself with this one

Alex Woodroe@alexwoodroe.com

Looks like the vibes are strong with this one! TATRATEA, my weird-eco-gothic-horror-cosmic-SF-post-apocalyptic fever dream of a book is out today, and readers seem to be getting out of it exactly what I was hoping for and more. Thank you for listening. We're all on this one way trip together🌱

Digger losing the studio over $100 million just as wb is poised to form the largest media monopoly in history is such a poetically perfect exclamation point on the film that it couldn’t have been planned better. And it might be the last word on that scale because these guys won’t let it happen again

Been thinking a lot about systems and the use of narrative. Particularly how the worst people elevate dumb people like Bostrum and shitty people like Friedman because they create narratives of absolution. Anyway, Digger was really good and everyone should watch it.

Without a hint of irony the head of DOD simultaneously announced a new initiative centering “Christianity” and a new department for automated drone warfare. Which is thematically consistent if you’re into killing without accountability while deluding yourself that you have the moral high ground.

With Primetime set to blow up it would be an awesome time for a lucky and smart publisher to snatch up my vampire novel that is To Catch a Predator x Interview with the Vampire

Today was the best day. The world is coming apart but damn if a capybara on your lap chirping away doesn’t shut all that bad stuff up for a moment. These guys are supernaturally chill and invite the chill in anyone subject to their field of serotonin. Magical.

My sincerest hope is that if ppl buy THE SHIP OF DEATH that they will mosey on over to THE NOTHING THAT IS or TONE-BONE and taste how crazy the sauce can go. Fingers crossed.

A rogue ai is not going to wipe out humanity. That’s just industry propaganda and honestly more of an accountability sink than anything. Normal ai will, however, facilitate fascism and accelerate climate collapse which will kill a lot of us.

Life in 2026 is watching secret police disappear people off the street one day, a coastline falling into the ocean the next, and wondering if each new cataclysm will be the one that causes the whole collective to turn its head and take notice and each time a little less surprised when it doesn’t.

I am sympathetic to Silicon Valley guys ascribing human-level consciousness to AI because if I had to talk to people from Silicon Valley all day I’d probably have a real low bar for sentience too

I thought Joe was making a very dark joke, but nope, this is just Reality now, I guess? (I'm not in the HWA, but JFC it's partly because almost everything I've seen about it could be its own horror story) It's like they're actively trying to drive authors away

TIL this is who apparently runs the Grievance Committee of the HWA. Patrick's still running unopposed. He's posted a weak statement on his substack saying he's grown as a person since creeping on Theo and "let the voters decide." There's no one else to vote for. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brett_T...

Patrick Barb is running unopposed and there has been no response to the statement from Theo. HWA members and staff: demand better. To my friend Theo: thank you for coming forward. To Patrick: power is a thing to not be toyed with. You should know better.

I’d reiterate that the key incident that drove the Cancel Culture panic - a wholly elite project, imposed from the top down - was the sight of Harvey Weinstein being dragged sobbing from court to jail, unprotected by his wealth, and the internet-based movement for justice that went with it.

I'm very upset and disappointed to learn that Patrick Barb is not *just* running for HWA president, but he's running unopposed. The *only* professional horror writer's organization needs to be led by someone who understands and respects the power they hold.

I want to boost Theo's accusation again because the Horror Writer's Association doesn't seem to have acknowledged it at all. Given that this is about a presidential nominee I would expect there to at least be consideration of the statement.

Objectively Bucky is hilarious as a concept because its basically the final legal iteration of the "cough syrup made of cocaine" genre of insane concoctions... But also, as a Christian, I do wonder how the monks persuade themselves it's okay to keep making it when the detrimental impact is so clear

This is probably the one that will get me some death threats. But in the year of our lord 2026, if your writing isn’t making some swath of insect want to unalive you then what are you even doing?

My vampire novel is on sub. This pretty much encapsulates the gist of it. “Yeah. I mean, the prose is fire but i don’t know what you’re implying by sending me a book about vampires murdering incels.” -Bram Stoker, author of Lair of the White Worm

When the guy who got famous for playing a vampire is starring in a movie about a guy who was an influence on your vampire novel that dares to ask, what if a vampire fed entirely on incels?

It’s interesting that this whole hwa embarrassment happened to occur right before the hwa election. I just like the idea of a conspiracy with the most embarrassingly low stakes imaginable so let me cook

The tescreal umbrella of philosophies is interesting because among the sociopathic class, there are people who legitimately believe these things and people who find them useful for rationalizing their behavior and it’s virtually impossible to tell the two groups apart (and probably not worth trying)

This is perhaps more of a form of theology rather than philosophy if the premise on which the thinking rests derives from an unquestionable belief. observer.com/2026/06/anth...

The narrativising of this is kind of maddening. OpenAI's model didn't "break free and hack HuggingFace." Meta's model didn't "break free and hack another company." Tech companies are blatantly doing illegal acts and saying their AI did it on it's own as a promotional stunt. That's it.

It keeps happening... It'd be great if these companies could spend a little bit more time on network security and a little less time vibe coding.
