We can probably blame the Neofascist Tech Bros peddling and funding Christian Nationalism south of the border as they invest in bug-out compounds in Argentina and plot to build network states to escape democracy and peddle their anti-human wares and philosophies.

Latin America is only becoming a bit more atheistic. Mostly it’s becoming more evangelical. HT @latinometrics (a must follow account if you think Latin America is interesting)

As farmers are kvetching about fuel prices and how they can no longer make a profit we can expect big-ag to move it and buy out even more farms. The real solution here is for farmers to form co-operatives and cut out the big-ag middle men that squeeze them on price while taking a far profit.

kosu.orgRanchers got tired of Big Beef taking their profits. So they're starting their own processing plantsA highly concentrated beef market has meant higher prices for consumers and lower returns for the people raising the animals. Some ranchers in the Midwest and Great Plains want a new option by organiz...

It would be even better if we had co-ops for the products that use agricultural produce too such as flour mills, bakeries, cereal manufacturers, etc. Co-ops keep jobs and profits in the community and cut out wasteful middle men who add little value in this day and age.

Give this new blue account some follow love...

David Mauricio tells @timmiller.bsky.social why he didn’t bother being polite on Jubilee’s β€œSurrounded”: β€œIf you’re still MAGA now, it’s either you’re crazy, you’re really stupid, or you’re probably a bad person.”

In my 3rd update on my reading of "How To Eat An Elephant" by @sarahlongwell25.bsky.social I would say I'm 100% behind her comments about Kamala Harris. I went to one of her rallies (okay, tried but missed entry by about a dozen people) and campaigned for her but he's not the one for 2028.

Like Sarah says I'm also convinced the whole Democratic party game plan for 2024 was a phenomenal cluster fork from start to finish. I've no idea if she would have won the nomination if Biden had just done the right thing but if she had I think it would have made a huge difference to her campaign.

Of course most of the people who didn't vote for her in 2024 would still have not done so, there's no accounting for people who want to hide behind "I just don't know who she is" and then run off and vote for the other guy who broadcasts he's a racist misogynist lying fraud to their faces.

83% of religiously unaffiliated Americans either strongly agree (67%) or agree (16%) that empathy is a foundational moral value that helps build a healthy society. That's the highest support of empathy of any group by religious affiliation (or not).

Meanwhile just 42% of white evangelical protestants strong agree (30%) or agree (12%) the same thing. Meanwhile 54% think it can be dangerous because it leads people away from God. And this is why I maintain that lack of empathy is a defining trait of MAGAmericans.

Of the 42% that do support empathy as a foundational moral value I think most probably don't know what empathy is or have a warped and selective definition eg. it means you say "I'll pray for you" or empathy is only for their own people.

It's sad to think there are Jewish people who think that Trump is supporting Israel's decimation of the Gaza Strip because he supports the Jewish people. No, he's just interested in taking his slice of that land and making billions in real estate, selling it to network state billionaires.

Remember the King of MAGA has no empathy, everything he does is transactional. If there was nothing in it for him he'd happily stop all aid to Israel. After all he had Musk kill USAID because "it's political". He really doesn't care so why should you?

One thing I have an issue with in Sarah Longwell's book "How To Eat An Elephant: One Voter At a Time" is when she says Democrats need to stop talking about Democracy and talk about America. While I get the point the problem seems to be the red hats have no definition of what "America" is.

Therefore I don't think there's anything Democrats could say about "America" that Republicans would resonate with or stick with that Trump MAGAmericans couldn't just hijack and fold into their cult. Do we really have to pitch in and create our own cult?

If so then maybe it's time to rename the part "The Americans Party", adopt Red-White-And-Blue "Make America Great" hats, and rally behind "Americans First". Note I was careful to say Americans not America, and make it great, not great again. It's a intentional trick to fight fire with fire hoses!

That is how Trump gets to change what their team is radically from what it was pre-Trump and no one bats an eye. It shouldn't be surprising given how many are evangelical "Christians" whose raison d'etre is about as far for New Testament Christianity as you could be.

So my issue is if Democrats are going to talk about "America" all the time then what does that even mean? Is America just a region of land? Is it a set of values? Is it the Constitution? Republicans demonstrate over and over a willingness to drill, piss on all, and shred all of these.

Indeed it seems to them it is nothing more than a cultish rallying cry "'merica". Sarah actually points out that Democrats think about values and Republicans just think about identity - their identity. They want to be part of a team but don't care what it stands for.

So that's only 1 in 3 Americans support him - getting close to the hardcore deranged number because there's still people fighting cognitive dissonance of seeing $6 and $7 diesel and sky high living costs. So lets get this to 1 in 4 or even 1 in 5.

Trump’s approval rating has plunged to a record low of just 31%, according to a new Reuters poll. Looks like he could be in the 20s by the midterms. Democrats lead Republicans 47% to 35% among registered voters, up from a 7-point lead two weeks earlier.

I'm looking forward to a thorough investigation into Elon Musk's visa and citizenship applications to see if he lied about his status after quitting school while here on an educational visa and then working for an extended period afterwards before his illegal status was discovered by investors.

I honestly don’t know much about El-Sayed, but this is a perfect answer from him. It’s also hilarious that Tommy used to work for Josh Hawley and was paid 250k for influencer marketing AGAINST El-Sayed. They might want to get a refund. What a spectacular backfire. The walk of shame at the end. 🀣

This is Tommy. Tommy had a question about my allegiances. Listen to the end to hear about his.

The irony is that Musk & Co are the greatest threat to the religion that so many MAGA are fond of claiming as their own. It'll be game over for their "churches" long before they even realize it. Musk et al are the enemy of everyone but billionaires, but only one party wants to try and stop them.

In here new book "How to eat an elephant: One voter at a time" @sarahlongwell25.bsky.social mentions FLAGS which are the emotions political strategists exploit to win over voters. It stands for Fear Love Anger Greed Sympathy and unsurprisingly the Right lean heavily into fear and anger.

static.macmillan.comHow to Eat An ElephantFrom the founder of The Bulwark and one of the sharpest political communicators of her generation, HOW TO EAT AN ELEPHANT is the playbook for consigning MAGA-style politics to the ash heap of history ...

I've always maintained that the defining qualities of the hardcore always Trumpers are no empathy and lack understanding of math and basic reasoning skills. Maybe they have some love for themselves like true narcissists and perhaps close family. Love of money and power goes hand in hand with greed.

Anyway, next time you hear a Republican (which is effectively MAGA now) talking listen out for how they are exploiting fear and anger of voters with a side dish of appeal to greed.

I made what I thought was a nice comment thanking someone for calling out the distinction between "lawyer" and "attorney" because most people don't realize there's a difference. Darn it if that person didn't block me πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Was I mansplaining or did they just hate something else in my profile?

Anyway it's kind of a moot point now she got fired beating even Scaramucci's two week stint in that role. Will she keep saying "lawyer" though? Meanwhile Kimberly Guilfoyle is out there roaming unresignedly - some say she has a file full of dirt on Republicans and is threatening to spill the beans.

IMHO lawyer is the term for a law school graduate with no license to practice law. But. Presenting yourself as a lawyer who has practiced law? No. Not correcting someone who calls you an attorney. No. And presenting yourself to the Chinese as an attorney to practice law in their country. No.

No one is required to follow unconstitutional orders or demands. Trump committed TREASON and Elon is a co-conspirator.

In case you're feeling dejavu here then yes, this is the same thing that the DOJ failed to prosecute him for. That was under Biden so one has to assume they felt there was insufficient evidence to get a conviction. Civil suits are easier to get a judgement in but it falls short of justice IMO.

IMO gun owners should have a regular psychological screening because crazy people with a gun are a clear and present danger to others. Cops carry guns and are given great powers, I think they should also have regular psychological screenings and be subject to similar regimens that control pilots.
