Anyone but Callum Turner, who my wife once called "the ugly guy from Eternity" because she didn't know his name.

Callum Turner, Jack Lowden and Josh O’Connor are among the four finalists for James Bond in Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming film. The fourth contender remains secret and is not Jacob Elordi. Final screen tests start next week. #JamesBond #CallumTurner #JackLowden #JoshOConnor

I ken this smack barm pea wet don't exist. I ken that when I put it in me mouth, the Matrix is telling me yed that it is juicy and delicious. But after nine years, ye ken what I've decided? I'm plum jiggered

Oof. Backing physical homebrew Game Boy games is something I really like to do, but just look at how much it really costs. $25 shipping! $9 tariffs! (That one is obviously America's fault.) It sucks but I'll probably be switching to digital for this going forward. =\

Mr. Smith, can you confirm on the record that you attended the premiere of Armageddon in 1998? I'll give you a minute to collect your thoughts because I don't think you know we have this.

this is such a fun little horror moment in metroid 2. absolutely perfect use of the gameboy's memory limits: you want to get some space between you and the surprise metroid, but the hole you shot to get here has already filled with sand again. you're trapped.

The Comdex report from 1993. Mentioned: 586/Pentium, smart TVs, 3DO, Sega CD, CD-R ("in development"), The 7th Guest ("long-awaited"). "Unfortunately, there is no clear direction as to where technology is taking the computer gaming hobby." This was clearly the early pre-3D days of PC gaming.

A quite negative review of The Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes with this banger: "...new Mario games are always coming out because the old ones sold like gangbusters, while new Sherlock Holmes games come out in spite of the fact that their predecessors sold like space heaters in the Sahara."

Seriously, one of the most interesting things about reading through old mags is seeing when something we take fully for granted was invented and considered revolutionary. Here's an example: the ability to name your save file and see a screenshot of the moment you saved.

I had to lol at this. I know it was the early '90s and in-game GUIs were still relatively new, but describing this interface as "revolutionary" is a "the PlayStation can produce mind-boggling effects" moment.

A special Techno-Wizardry section. I miss the days when we talked about technology in earnest, positive terms. 'Computers provide tools for personal creativity and entertainment, group interaction, altered perspectives...' Sometimes for the worse, right? It didn't feel that way back then.

They spend *three* full pages on a fractal generator program called FracTools in their special "Techno-Wizardry" section. I think this image is kinda cool. FracTools 3 is on the Internet Archive.
