One of the biggest mysteries of the Wow! Signal is its exact location, with two possible positions in the sky. Our #AreciboWow team has solved this mystery using three independent methods. We’ll present our findings in 2027. We know! 😉

Oh, and *the result defeats ETH within the very framework whose supposed fundamental limitations are being discussed*??!?!? Peer into Madhyamaka, and you start to see a lot of things like this. newworkinphilosophy.substack.com/p/formalizin...

We've been gathering at Starfleet Academy to honor Walter Koenig. Feel free to join us - at times like this, Star Trek fans come together to support one another, and your fellow Captains are here for you, and for Walter.

Good. A remarkable amount of city and state politics takes place on the court as opposed to the golf course. Let him hold court on their property while they seethe at him

New: Mayor Zohran Mamdani and a group of his friends have been secretly using the NYPD Police Academy’s gymnasium in Queens to play pickup basketball — scrambling some operations at the facility. w/ @grahamrayman.bsky.social & Joe Anuta www.politico.com/news/2026/10...

I'm not. 27 is old as shit. I was married for years by then. We're all way too nice

Aubrey Gilleran@aubreygilleran.bsky.social

I'm quite willing to forgive this from a 27-year-old. Welcome to adulthood! A little late to it but happy you're here regardless.

I consider all these teen suicides and wonder why none of these 27 year old idiots last this long. There's a good trade to make here

this is why i yawn every time the white house press corps gets threatened. what difference does it make?

in a manner similar to otherwise throwaway artists, mediocre programmers are discovering that they will be rewarded with more attention for escalating moral panic than whatever they were doing before.

r/opensource banning non-english speakers because "we can't tell the difference between ai slop and ai translation" is... uh... yeah. a choice.

leon botstein only just resigned, it will take a long time for all these academic men to get the message

Jesus Christ, it’s not difficult: your students are NOT your dating pool FFS. Like, ewwww.

The panic of 1873 is really hard to conceptualize. It was actually the longest economic contraction in U.S. history!

Rob Cyran@robcyran.bsky.social

Now this is what you call a panic - over half the railway bonds (which were most of listed bonds) in NY went into default in 1873. (Reading 1873 by Ahamed so all in this thread is from the book)

the team on the original civ had as many composers as developers. return to equilibrium

One reason games are so expensive is that you need to hire a lot of very expensive programmers rather than much cheaper creatives like writers and VAs, so it’s especially odd given the recently created Automated Programming Machine to go “let’s fire our creatives”. That’s the comparative advantage!

have some discipline, don't click on the national review link. don't click on the nyt link. just don't. you'll live, i promise

Aida Chavez (previously affiliated with a slew of populist left outlets and Just FP, a pro-russia appeasement org) had her CIA contractor boyfriend leak classified secrets for her to publish in her failing Substack. Espionage for internet clout is kinda new?

4 minutes, all 🔥 Every time I see AOC being incredible I can't stop thinking about how the DCCC responded *directly* to her election by introducing rules to blacklist campaign staff who work for primary challengers, basically going nuclear on her existence ( eg theintercept.com/2019/03/25/d... )

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

AOC: "What the Trump administration is doing in targeting trans people is to get everyone on board with supporting defunding their own civil rights ... understand that when they attack trans girls in sports, they're also attacking all women's ability to stand up against their abusers"

men in journalism truly disgust me. his entire political career he has demeaned the women daring to do the job and you all just look at your shoes about it. disgusting little shits, you are worthless

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

😳 WOMAN REPORTER: Do sexual abuse allegations mean nothing to you, sir? TRUMP: Wait. Wait! Wait wait wait. Slow down. Who are you with? REPORTER: NBC, sir. But they are very serious sex abuse allegations TRUMP: Quiet! Isn't she a fresh person? You're a horrible little reporter, aren't you?

What @freemix.fm is doing is so ambitious, well executed from the jump, and just so freaking *cool*. They created an entire music platform with a built-in sharing and licensing system, all on atproto. You gotta see it.

It started with a dream 20 years ago... 10 months of work with a lot of help from the AT Proto community, Bluesky, and friends. FreeMix is live!!! Open to all and all genres welcome. Free to join. I can't wait to see what you create. (oh and some exclusive tracks by me ready to be remixed)
