Here's our latest collaboration between Bellingcat and us at @congoeye.com (this time I was able to contribute a bit 😉) We're continuing monitoring the situation

Bellingcat@bellingcat.com

Rwanda-backed M23 rebels are consolidating their control over Goma, a city of approximately 2 million people. Clashes dominated the streets earlier this week forcing residents to stay inside. Bellingcat has been monitoring the ongoing crisis… www.bellingcat.com/news/2025/01...

Always supervise your LLMs, guys

Bellingcat@bellingcat.com

In September, the AI company Anthropic claimed its models were approaching “superhuman capabilities for geolocating outdoor photos”. Bellingcat put that claim to the test by benchmarking the performance of Anthropic and other LLMs. Here’s what we found: www.bellingcat.com/resources/20...

The worst Ebola outbreak in the world is ongoing in the DRC and you’re not being informed about it in part because the reason it is spiralling is US politics. At least one person who was suffering from the disease crossed into Uganda by road and then flew from Kampala to Nairobi where he died.

More sportswashing here for a regime that uses in the Kivu region very similar tactics as russia did with Crimea and the Donbas before their full scale invasion

The amount of genuine experts taking as truthful the chart of the russian bots dropping after the strikes at Yandex datacenters is appalling. Comes to show how vulnerable we all are to disinformation when it confirms our biases. I admit I also believed it for a sec when I first saw it but come on

🇺🇸❗️UPDATE: US Treasury Department announces exemption of diesel fuel supplies from Russia from US sanctions until April 7, 2027

Don't be surprised if this is an announcement to try to bring the oil prices down and actually nothing happens. It reeks desperation by both sides

Prune60@prune602.bsky.social

Here’s a few questions I have about this new announcement from Trump. 1. Russian has had to lower the specs on their fuel to increase demand. Can we even use their diesel? 2. The US doesn’t lack refining capacity, this decree would bypass them and hurt domestic refining, which will piss them off.

Lmao, Kevin Rothrock blocked me after I pointed out his false equivalence and then tried to rage bait me. Actions speaking out what kind of person he is.

Russia has bombed a school basically every single day this week, so for those people who say "if this was happening in Ukraine, it would be on the front pages every day", how many times have you seen that on the front page of even one of your national newspapers this week? Zero.

If the last 15 years of work on things like MH17 and chemical weapon use tells me anything is you'll need a lot more than mere evidence to change the mind of any denialist.

It’s harvest season in Ukraine, but in the first two weeks of August, Ukrainian grain exports were down 75% from the same period last year. Russia’s military blockade has effectively cut off Ukrainian ports from the Black Sea.🧵

I don't think it should be controversial to say, "we will not provide financial or military assistance to a country where the Minister of National Security brags about popping people's dreams of 'food' and 'education' then sending them to a prison where they are starved."

Nathan Tankus@nathantankus.bsky.social

Ben Gvir posted this video on twitter today which shows fat and happy Palestinians on a conveyer built going through the Israeli "prison" (torture camp) system and coming out emaciated and maudlin. This is textbook genocidal content.

Forgot to share, but here a couple pics I took of the total solar eclipse earlier this month I've been waiting for it since my first partial eclipse when I was a kid, and I just want more. The awe you feel with a total eclipse makes you truly understand why people were so superstitious about them

The 30-ish missiles hit in a span of 20 minutes. There's footage of massive fires right now.

Romeo Kokriatski@vagrantjourno.bsky.social

Kyiv under heavy missile attack, massive fires in multiple districts of the city have been reported. Reported hits in the suburbs as well. An estimated 30 or so missiles have been launched at Kyiv so far, and at least a dozen rocket drones are also in the air.

The threat was identified, apparently some software was compromised and that triggered the hijacking of Discord on my windows machine. Apparently Firefox was also targeted but thankfully I don't use the in-browser password manager. Things should be back to "normal" soon

BREAKING: Volodymyr Zelenskyy has chosen Mykhailo Drapatyi to be commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s armed forces and dismissed controversial general and close ally Oleksandr Syrsky in the biggest shake-up of the country’s military leadership since 2024. @financialtimes.com

At the Ukrainian embassy in Madrid, showing solidarity with all of Ukraine in their protests against the removal of Fedorov as Ministry of Defence and how that represents a step back in Ukraine's path to freedom

This needs to be emphasized further. The lol russian AD is gone message is not only misleading in factuality (even if there are many what airdefense doing? moments) but also because it reduces agency on Ukrainians and takes merit away from the huge effort they are making to keep ramping up.

Anders Puck Nielsen@anderspucknielsen.dk

There is a tendency in Europe to underestimate Russia's air defense. But again, it's important to understand that Ukraine's success is due to their ability to produce massive quantities of missiles and drones consistently. Not just the few lucky ones that get through.

KIRKE appears to be related with Aughinish Alumina, which is owned by Rusal, founded and controlled by sanctioned oligarch Oleg Deripaska and actively supplying the Russian military to produce, among other things, the missiles currently striking Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities

David@puca.bsky.social

Timelapse on the way but here's one frame. It shows Irish Air Corps C295 MSA (#285) callsign KRAKEN circling vessel KIRKE as the Ukrainian aircraft approached. PANTHER, a PC-9 is between it & Baldonnel. HAWKEYE, a PC-12 is orbiting Baldonnel. WOLF1 & WOLF2, AW-139s are circulating near the coast.

🧵 On 6 June, Russia attacked four civilian cargo ships in Ukraine's Black Sea corridor — then struck the boats that came to rescue the crews. Ukraine says two rescuers were killed and several wounded, their marked rescue craft left ablaze. A "double tap" at sea — a thread. 👇

He meant uranium instead of plutonium but yes, it's been documented before and yes, they are putting in their drones a highly dense metal that is radioactive, highly toxic, carcinogenic and flammable, to use as shrapnel. And then launch them into populated areas. Residential buildings.
