Sorry for the fuzzy photo but it was sure fun to hang with George Saunders, Prof Julie Schumacher, and 2000 other people last night! Thanks to Saunders for sharing insights and jokes--and for appreciating Minnesota.

“Lucy holds most things that make their way to her (homework assignment, detention slip, boyfriend) in a similarly vague fashion—lightly, poised to let them go.” Related hard—for my once-upon-a-teen self, for my teen daughter—to this gem by @melostrom.bsky.social

The dogs were acting weird today. Bowie locked up & sat down multiple times on morning sniffari. Multiple barking round rovers from dogs up and down the block. Everybody seemed on edge. I blame the moon.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but you don’t need to register with a party to vote in a primary in Minnesota. You can just go vote! Do it today!

“But sometimes, writing about the life around me is the best way I can love it. Or maybe it’s me trying to pray for what I’ve seen, to protect what I’ve witnessed and experienced.” Breathtaking (literally in my case) essay by @theferocity.bsky.social

Saeed Jones@theferocity.bsky.social

In 2023 while in NOLA, a Lyft Driver and I had a conversation about leaving home. It led to him telling me about his terminal diagnosis. “An editor told me once that if you want to understand a war, interview the grave diggers. I’d add that if you want to understand a city, interview the drivers.”
