I’m only in my second year in education (K-8) and have had to learn about trauma-informed responses on the job because it wasn’t taught to me. Obviously it’s not as extreme as, “You will die if you don’t let me help you.” Building trust requires an empathetic response like the ER doc’s.

the babahuck@tylerhuckabee.bsky.social

lots of wisdom here

Please note that I do not mean using it to manipulate someone. I’m as cynical as they come, especially with politicians, but this response is the only way that has allowed any positive relationship with my most difficult students. Grateful to the counselors and profs who helped me start learning.

Replying to @judah-grunstein.bsky.social

What distinguishes Trump II is that they make almost no effort to legitimize their actions against any of these norms, and when they do (in the case of the boat killings or Iran's nuclear program, for instance), it is so visibly false as to be gaslighting.

The big oil + national politician thing checks out. I’m confused by the Starbucks part, though.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Minnesota Senate nominee Michele Tayofa on the Iran war: "Maybe you take one less trip to Starbucks and so that gas goes a little further. Until this thing is over and these gas prices come back down again, let's just try to be patriots about this."

I am fortunate to have grown up in a tradition that just had youth involved in the normal aspects of the community all the time and didn’t see a need for separate programs. Then I entered high school and started going to a friends’ youth group… 🤕 and 🙃 Solid writing again from Tyler and Sojourners.

the babahuck@tylerhuckabee.bsky.social

In the 90s and 00s, churches invested millions in youth group, creating a parallel universe for christian teenagers to grow up in and, eventually, change the world. That was the plan anyway. What happened? My first cover story for @sojo.net.

Just to be clear, the emojis show that there was joy with aspects of that culture that I’m still wrestling with and healing from as a 40-year-old. YFC, FCA, etc. gave me space to learn the good and difficult aspects of community. For that I am grateful.

The timing of this… It may just be my circle of influence talking about this, but hopefully more broad. As the men’s World Cup has reached the business end (and the USMNT has crashed out) title 9 came up as a success story because it is (arguably) why our WNT has 4 World Cup wins and 5 Olympic gold.

In the latest splashy media treatment, Christian dominionist pastor, Doug Wilson said, “We’re getting a respectful hearing. Maybe not a friendly hearing, but we’re getting a respectful one. And that is progress.” But his views are shameful. And that’s why I have issues with the ways he’s covered.

Everyone makes mistakes, everyone is capable of change, and we are all more than the worst thing we've ever done. That's all true. But it's also true that actions have consequences. Committing sexual violence doesn't always carry the consequence of barring one from political office, but it should.

I'm excited to be dragged into the pit of no return by the hogs on Bluesky for believing people make mistakes and can change. The SA allegations are awful. Please crucify me.

Credit to the ‘conservative’ justices for really going all out for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. I think Bringing back the old constitutional arguments is a BIT over the top, but I can respect sticking to a bit. We get it now. You can end the bit.

When you know anything about the actual headache that was WWII alliance-management, it only underscores how ignorant and uninformed Hegseth is. He and people like him would have been defending the beaches on D-Day, not storming them.

Diversity doesn’t weaken unions. Racist bosses like Vance using racism to divide workers by race so they can exploit them weakens unions. All this stuff is arsonists complaining about the temperature in the building they set on fire. bsky.app/profile/diew...

JD Vance claims that diversity weakens unions, as people end up distrusting each other and not organizing. Let me tell you two menswear stories related to this claim. 🧵

There is no world in which it is normal for the president to publicly call upon his attorney general to hurry up and prosecute his political foes. It’s like the Watergate tapes but posted on social media. Let’s get a grip on what’s happening here.

not just that he has no constitutional authority, there isn't even any particular legal or institutional mechanism by which the president can make anyone treat this as anything other than a weird advisory opinion.

This “explicit” is a weird editorial choice. The constitution gives the president no power over this at all. It’s not ambiguous.
