At Normandy, Hegseth used a D-Day memorial service to warn of immigrant "invasion" of European beaches. These are the graves of men who died fighting a fascist regime that rose to power on exactly that kind of rhetoric. He may as well be spitting on their graves.

Not possible anymore. They are here and have been for years. The Think Tanks behind Project 2025 (and others) have been doing events here for years. And quite a few European politicians like this. The same playbook is being practiced here and it starts working with a delay of a couple of years.

Trump's grandfather ran away in 1885 to the US to avoid military service. He was deported back to Bavaria in 1901 where he was stripped of his citizenship for cowardice and kicked out. He became wealthy by running a brothel in Canada during the gold rush. A genealogy to be proud of.

Had the US not been attacked by Japan in 1941, they may have sat out the war selling material to both sides. Our Canadian govt joined in 1939 as did many other nations. One of the most significant factors in Britain not falling under Nazi occupation was how strongly the Commonwealth countries supported us. I know the politics are more complicated than it being a polite ‘lend us a hand!’ The UK and Europe owe a lot to those allies, it’s too often overlooked.

Hegseth is human garbage, but FDR's policy was unambiguously pro-Allied. He was taking ample flack for it from the America First movement - Hegseth's predecessors. The case can be made that FDR was too wary of public opinion, which wanted to have it both ways (aiding the UK without entering).

. . . but there was already an undeclared naval war between the U.S. Navy and German U-Boats by fall 1941. Hitler's navy wanted a declaration so they could finally operate off the Eastern Seaboard. Maybe they'd have gotten one in 1942 absent Pearl Harbor.

I don't think Hegseth will survive the change that is coming this fall. He will be removed by a Democratic Congress next spring, and Trump will be blocked by Congress, as well. So, it's actually just 5 more months of this chaos. After the election, there are 2 months of calm before the change.

That's not true. Americans did NOT know that Trump was going to start a war with Iran. He campaigned on not starting any more "forever wars". He said that at 100s of rallies around the country. Trump is a temporary President, who can't be re-elected. American Democrats will restore trust w/Europe

Hegseth is a war criminal. Like many American's I grew up in a military family. Grandfather in WW2 & father in Vietnam. Uncles were in WW2, Korean War, etc. Everyone, everywhere seemed to be involved. What I learned from them is war is HELL & should be avoided at all costs. Every generation suffers.

Yep same- but it was my Dad in WW2. Most men don’t speak about it, except to friends that were in it with them. Also the amount of war injuries these men have that leave them debilitated in one way or other the rest of their lives. 😢

So true. I don't think the trend of 'not talking about it' was a good one. Because younger generations did not learn. Many were convinced they would be war heroes. Communication is essential. From Vietnam forward, people started talking more about the horrors & generational problems resulting.
