Interesting points. Also, fish again! 😀

🚨🚨Major #referendum tomorrow for #Iceland on resuming negotiations on joining the #EuropeanUnion. The referendum is potentially a major political litmus test for European integration where a yes-vote would enhance strong impetus for the European project. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Sigh! Meta earned $83.276 billion (just last year). They've beeing doing this shit for more than a decade! The Careless People from Meta would say this was good business, etc. 🤢

Terence Eden@edent.tel

So all those people saying that the UK was stupid for proposing a "bedtime curfew" for teenagers using social media… That's *exactly* what Meta has agreed to do in the US - as well as paying a huge settlement. www.reuters.com/world/us/met...

Wasted lunch! The verify you’re a director of a company is probably the worst gov service I have come across. I’m sure it has nothing to do with the team who developed it and more to do the usual suspects. And yeah, IDV is tricky but bloody hell! Could probably do a whole thesis on the thing.

There's a deep lesson here for folks creating services and products.

I tell my kids not to pick blackberries that are close to the ground because of what a dog might have done - better PR for "good fruit" over "low hanging fruit" please

I'm hopeful that social media taught regulators not to wait 2 decades to act. The less positive side of me worries that the hype around AI will encourage them to look away under the guise that any regulation "stifles innovation". www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

In just 1.5 hours, the kids and I made 2 games (2 HTML files) suing Claude. Worth a proper write up that I may not get to. But my 2 cents are that the learning objectives are exactly as they should be for now: planning, reasoning, problem solving etc. Not about typos, knowing complex html etc 1/4

It's good Claude let's us focus on the above for this particular activity for our 5 and 7 yr olds. I'm sure another activities can look into teaching them code, etc. Most importanly, they made an atual thing, they enjoyed! Without slaving beyond their capacity, or me doing 95% of the work... 2/4

The parallels between this and how many orgs design products / services! The whole outputs vs outcomes is arguably systemic. It’s ok though, on the front of it, the show goes on and perceived success is achieved.

1/ Here's how it works (for others, Oz knows). A story breaks and every news show needs guests to talk about it. A desperately overworked producer frantically searches Twitter/BlueSky and starts DMing people who seem like they have credentials. The producer likely knows nothing about the topic.

'I was looking after some goats... I gave the goat a dose of tea, in 2 mins it was all over, tea did the trick, she had 3 kids' ❤️😀

John Bull@garius.eurosky.social

So, BlueSky, one of my passions is the study of tea in WW2. I need you to watch this oral history from three ex-tea ladies from the Bermondsey WVS. Because you could guess for ONE THOUSAND YEARS and you would not guess where it is going... #skystorians #history #tea

JFC! The right already stripped abortion rights from millions of women. Contraception is next. Project 2025 made the agenda clear. This was never about saving babies. It’s about control, pushing women back into submission and forcing more births. 1/2

Heard of a scenario where a director level person responsible for transformation type work asked how the team go from user feedback to deploying (absolute basics). And he was completely shocked to hear that’s ’how long things take’. This particular director is an ex-consultant from the big ones.

Is there a word for the following? When folk share inspirational posts about how to do product / design / dev well. But completely miss that they're doing the very thing the article says not to do.

A Service Designer showed me how he very quickly got Co-pilot to create a product overview video based on a word doc he put together. It wasn't perfect, but it did the job.

'the UK creative industries — which contributed £125 billion to the economy in 2024 and supported 2.4 million jobs — are being destroyed by an AI sector that... contributed just £11 billion in the same year and supported only 85,000 jobs." www.thetimes.com/culture/film...

The 'I' and 'now' does the heavy lifting in that sentence. I've had a few discussions with immigrants, and kids of immigrants who say this sort of shit. There's a lot to pick apart. And yet so much of it ends up circling back to selfsihness and self-grandure.

I really understand very little about the current version of reality.

‘But in the 2020s, not validating ideas is amateurish.’

Scenario 1: Just Do It Prototype -> Develop -> Launch Scenario 2: Experiment Then Launch Prototype -> Usability Test -> Experiment -> Launch A fast launch gets the product to customers quick. But experimenting first showed the winning launch. buff.ly/t7ZRbh9

Living this atm and agree with a lot of it. On the cause-remedy point, I think teams often lock themselves into an approach too early because some teams measure tangible progress in the form of screens. There are a number of reasons, e.g. delivery pressure, IxD preference, screen-focused UR, etc.

A great article on 'one thing per page' grillopress.github.io/2019/01/31/o...

Some other things that make it tricky: - The surplus of debt is vast, and teams rarely get to go back - Sometimes you have to re-design the whole flow, not just add iteratively to individual pages - Users often reference what they know, making it hard for some teams to discern what is needed
