“Popular NYC Mayor fucks with NYPD to play some pick up games”. I’m begging you, we cannot like him anymore please stop.
New: Mayor Zohran Mamdani and a group of his friends have been secretly using the NYPD Police Academy’s gymnasium in Queens to play pickup basketball — scrambling some operations at the facility. w/ @grahamrayman.bsky.social & Joe Anuta www.politico.com/news/2026/10...
Once again, Peter Thiel doesn’t want anyone else immanentizing the eschaton because that’s his job.
Is this the justification/rationale for tech accelerationism??? If the “Antichrist’s arrival is a necessary precursor to the 2d Coming of Christ,” then “[s]hould we even be looking to delay the end of the world? Maybe we shld just accelerate, put the pedal to the floor &… get it all over with…” 1/
I’ve been saying this for years now. The problem is the meritocracy illusion. AI is just exposing it on a massive scale.
As this article fleshes out, the issue with AI in higher ed is an issue primarily with higher ed itself; with its incentive structure that devalues genuine academic and intellectual work compared to output volume and performance indicators. AI is an accelerant, but the fire was already there.
By this same logic isn’t Jesse a leader amongst the anti-woke activist class, the class that he thinks are the real problem?
so they invent this mythical figure of the trans activist—very radical, very powerful, utterly illiberal—sepeperate from 'ordinary' trans people they're the ones who went too far, who provoked all of this, left sensible centrists like them no choice but to speak out
I’m also terrified about the next two years no matter how well the election goes.
I suffer from a lot of doomerism about how catastrophic the next two years can be and all the damage Trump will do even if Democrats win both houses. But *not* the doomerism about Trump being able to pull off a massive election theft in two weeks.
I had the absolute pleasure of watching this entire clip. The wildest part is when Tommy admits he wants American to be an explicitly Christian nation and doesn’t actually value freedom of religion. After getting absolutely bodied for four minutes he still takes that last haymaker right on the chin.
This is Tommy. Tommy had a question about my allegiances. Listen to the end to hear about his.
New ETV out for everyone! I'm joined by @profstorm.bsky.social to discuss his excellent new book The Genealogy of Genealogy. Great dive into a concept that gets thrown around a lot with not enough clarity on the baggage it carries. Enjoy!
From the folks who brought you “they’re promoting cannibalism in schools”
These sorts of stories feel like they’re grown in a lab to give the impression these folks are the dumbest possible incarnation of the adeptus mechanicus. Not saying that they’re inaccurate, just that Poe’s law remains undefeated.
"AI researchers are taking up smoking because they expect AI to cure cancer, says Palantir CTO"
I had a great time on The Ideal with Shawn Edwards for my first (of hopefully many) upcoming interviews about my rapidly approaching new book Luckpilled: Compassion, Justice and Hope in a World Nobody Deserves! Preorders start January 12th! www.rutgersuniversitypress.org/luckpilled/9...
My ban on reading anything from Brooks remains undefeated.
"Jon Ossoff, my advice to him is, if you start calling your political opponents Nazis, maybe it's time to shut up. That's just not what we do here in this country." -- David Brooks, this evening. Remember, Brooks still gets very handsomely rewarded by the fossilized media for saying shit like this
Gonna be my most evergreen article:

raise revenue and undercut right-populism with One Weird Trick (capitalists HATE this)
New working paper: the Norwegian wealth tax was a huge success. The "exodus" of wealthy people never happened (less than 100 individuals left). Tax revenue increased by 71.5%. No changes in business activity or investment. www.nber.org/papers/w35854
As both a virtue ethicist and as a hard problem mysterian I think this is pretty neet!
Anthropic wrote that the new policy update “is meant to apply only in extreme cases, where users repeatedly act cruelly toward our models, with no discernible purpose. It does not apply to common versions of user frustration, pushback, dark creative themes, or model testing and research.”
