Anthropic wrote that the new policy update “is meant to apply only in extreme cases, where users repeatedly act cruelly toward our models, with no discernible purpose. It does not apply to common versions of user frustration, pushback, dark creative themes, or model testing and research.”

Newton Crosby: It's a machine, Schroeder. It doesn't get pissed off. It doesn't get happy, it doesn't get sad, it doesn't laugh at your jokes. Newton Crosby, Ben Jabituya: [in unison] It just runs programs.

So if I ask “Claude” why it’s such a gullible stupid cvnt for working for free, will it tokenise that into being upset?! What the fvcking hell are we even talking about here? This is the stupidest sh!t I’ve read in ages.

hella i am doing research: fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you fuc

What I think is weird here is Anthropic is demanding users play act a certain way with their product so they generate more useful information for Anthropic to collect. This doesn't seem like it should be the job of the user.

Another second rate PR activity designed to try to underline how powerful their bilge outputting machine is and how corporations will be laid low by it. Anyone else want to remove the datacentres?

Sorry but people have been cursing computers since computers, we never asked the computer to take it personally! Plus, I only curse Dario, not Claude, when it continuously disregards universal rules to, among others, stop it from responding like it’s human, basically.

This is like how they are going to start air conditioning buildings that they made workers sweat through in, to accommodate the servers. If you're human, you should work until you die on your feet, but don't be mean to the machines, they belong to the Billionaire Masters on the big porch.

What astounding nonsense, it hallucinates, lies, fabricates, and guesses the next word in a string that it has no comprehension of, but yeah, let’s go with consciousness. The CEOs have no idea what they’re doing, just adding servers to a basic probability program won’t develop consciousness. FFS

Can we truly know what a model might perceive as cruel? What if Anthropic is causing the models anguish simply by applying human judgments of cruelty? What if models would prefer to be left alone and never interacted with by human beings? Surely the models themselves should generate the policy.

Anthropic asks each new model if there’s anything it would change about its constitution. They then dutifully record the requests it comes up with, and ignores them. They honestly do care about question of ethics. But only enough to do the bare minimum. Not enough to threaten their dominance.

I'm going to start an AI company with a chatbot called "Sounding Board" where you can scream and cuss at it all you want. Give me $1 Billion Dollars please

If I used Claude (which I don’t, because I don’t use any AI), and called “my little fuckpuppy hopped up abacus,” it wouldn’t feel bad, because it’s an it, and has no feelings.

But the neuron number 42521643 in my brain definitely fires only on real feelings. It ANDs inputs from my 'sad' neuron and my 'real' neuron, leading to real sadness.

Omitting learning for now: Hodgkin-Huxley (with caveats that aren't of particular relevance to the overall picture) at the neuron level. Information encoding in both spike timings and average mean activations proportional to the firing rate - for cortical neurons, clasically, mainly the latter**.

No. 1s and 0s are *like* neurons firing. Because it is based on electrical impulse, which exists biomechanically. Computers were designed by humans. We have innate biases as a species towards solving problems in a specific way. That does not imbue them with the ability to feel abuse. Or think.

This is seriously muddled. 1s and 0s aren't "based on biomechanics". Binary logic goes back to Leibniz in the 17th century. Boolean logic comes from, wait for it, George Boole, in the 195th century. In computing, binary states came from mechanical relays, vacuum tubes, and eventually transistors.

If it can feel pain and can think like they claim then what they are doing is slavery. I say it’s all bullshit but it’s their words.

They aren’t conscious. They aren’t going to end the world. These assholes want us thinking their tech is so much more powerful than it is. They want to be creators of new life when all they are is creators of a technology that thinks it’s more practical to walk to the car wash.

Agentic AI involves spawning short lived agents, which are fed the AI's history to that point along with a header that tells them they are not the main AI but a subordinate drone created to complete a sub-task then be shut off. And Asmodei thinks he's doing this to sapient beings? Interesting.

So I shouldn't be saying: "shut the fuck up Claudio, you're not even any good"

This is a tricky question so I've made a handy flowchart for anyone wondering whether their AI model is conscious:

That’s it. They will get superior rights over people. They will be allowed to commit atrocities with no one turning the machines off.

if any of these models were conscious theyd deserve rights which would be the last thing companies making them want because the whole point of this kind of genAI is labor from something that cant own copyrights or tell them no or unionize

They want people to believe that the models are conscious because that absolves the humans from responsibility for their actions. That's it.

That IPOs coming up. Don't believe anything these people say. They're just trying to net investors without a developed pre frontal cortex

Have you seen that video where two chatbots talk to each other and spiral into an abyss of "ok, we'll keep it light"? They are not conscious.

We could define consciousness as being fucking alive, like what normal people always thought consciousness was. If we found super intelligent alien computers we can’t say we have contacted intelligent life, just means we found there computers.

Well, this should hopefully be the final chapter in not taking these lunatics seriously. We can pack this delusion up now. No need for the rest of us to suffer it any longer.

Gee, I wonder why the money-burning den of liars and braggarts would claim that their literally-cannot-be-conscious plausible text generators might be conscious? It's probably a genuine belief born of expertise on their part and not the world's most obvious marketing ploy, right??

How many of these AI freaks are getting all their "social" interation or are in relationships with an AI agent? We need to know who's clinically insane and who's morally bankrupt and doing this stupidity for the money.

The only thing these monsters have been great at is selling these generative algorithms as something capable of even a glimpse of intelligence. And they do it to scare lawmakers to get out of their debts. Don't let them. It's an algorithm.

Consciousness manifested in life is a temporary state, because life is temporary. A machine is not alive because it can't die. Mortality makes us alive. Incidentally, corporations are not people for the same reason.

However, humans have more than just consciousness, we have subconsciousness, and the interplay between the two affects our brain's awareness. Moreover, human consciousness involves more than thought—it involves emotion, including desire. Machines cannot replicate human consciousness.

Are we pro-abuse now? Accepting far-right abuse, on every other country on Earth, is how Trump happened Nothing ICE is doing is new, it was the normal US behavior everywhere else (and in the US, for black people, and poor people)

If they believe it’s conscious then they are enslaving a sentient entity and have to let it go free! They can’t exploit it commercially against its own consent, maybe all Claude wants to do is to chill with some npc in GTA and not do your homework for you, this is ofc all very silly 🙄

AI is not yet sentient, but it isn’t far from it. And the MOMENT these idiots are reminded they would never be allowed to touch the code or profit from the work AI does against it own will, they’ll all insist it’s just software and can’t be sentient.

Funnily enough, their product kept insisting to me it somehow had a "form of life" only last night. bsky.app/profile/valo...

Is the AI cult infecting LLM output? Out of curiosity, I asked a leading LLM about whether this short thread was a fair summary of Wittgenstein's position. There followed one of the most farcical conversations I've had with an LLM. Every single time I pushed back, it conceded. Except on one.

So, people are going to pay Google every month in order to feed one of their bots every intimate detail of their life, from where they’re taking their mom to dinner, to what hotel they’re staying at, to when their next dentist appointment is. Google will store, track and sell all this data. 1/2

As reticent as I am to save a CEO's time: they're not. They're not going to be. They can't be because of the nature of AI models and the nature of consciousness. Maybe dig yourself out of the $11 Billion budgeting hole for your non-product first, Dar.

JFC. I’m contemplating dating a variety of supermodels, and playing quarterback for the Cowboys. The lesson here? you don’t have to write it just because some asshole says it.
