Shameful. Congress should pass a revised version of the Russia sanctions bill with no Presidential waiver authority.

"The Trump administration is exploring a new concession to Russia: lifting sanctions on the country’s flagship government investment fund, long viewed by U.S. officials as one of the Kremlin’s most powerful tools of international influence."

This is a glimpse a week into the future of what the GOP do when they loses massively everywhere. Trump goes "you're on your own" and they just give up

BREAKING WaPo: Brazil's right-wing Flávio Bolsonaro just effectively conceded defeat to the incumbent left-wing president — minutes after Trump indicated he would not intervene on his behalf.

How much suffering would we avoid if these guys would just get out of the closet?

JD Vance: Ryan Zinke complemented my beautiful blue eyes earlier today. I was very excited about that. We're self-confident men in the Trump-Vance administration. The president has been noticing a lot about the physiques of everybody lately

I will never understand the psychological profile of leftists who demand that liberals, who they will never support, acknowledge that leftists are honorable. "You have to admit anarchists do important work in their communities!" no, i don't! you won't acknowledge anything liberalism does!

intelligence is knowing that if i ever looked up anything about Magyar, Lula, or any of the other election winners i would probably not be great fans of their politics wisdom is knowing it doesn't matter because defeating the global chud coalition is all that matters for the foreseeable future

Now, whether or not Paraguay should've fought its neighbors in the War of the Triple Alliance? Probably the single worst military decision in the history of Latin America and up there for worst military decision of all time.

"Tanks are worthless in Ukraine!" >Ukraine keeps asking for more armor and using it when they can >Russia is experimenting with APS and add-on armor that can withstand drone waves so they can resume maneuver warfare No one has learned anything from this war, have they?

Entertainment access! I know there's nostalgia for video stores, but I like being able to find almost any movie, song, or video game ever made from the comfort of my home-- and I'm frequently able to then stream or download them within minutes.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

It also makes it much easier to share this stuff with your friends. I don't have to loan a CD or make a mixtape, I can just send a link. If I have guests, we can decide on a movie to watch and have it on in minutes without having to see if its in our collection or available at the local rental store

In person couch co-op and multiplayer gaming has its appeal (and that's part of why I love board games) but I also appreciate that I can game with my friends that are multiple timezones away, or even people nearby who need to be home with their kids.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but Dave Petraeus has always been a morally dubious spotlight ranger and whatever he's currently on about is entirely because he thinks he can be relevant in it, regardless of how valuable it actually is.

Finished Blood Dawn. I think the military history aspects still have some poor analysis and straight up factual errors, but the overall portrayal of Asia's role in WW2 and how that set the stage for many fault lines today is valuable. An easy recommend, even if it induces some eyerolls.

I'm reading Blood Dawn, and overall it's quite well written -- but there is something that stands out to me. The author isn't very proficient at military history, referring to Rommel as "the Desert Rat" and attributing the Zero to Japanese air forces as a response to the Spitfire.

This doesn't invalidate the rest of the book, which is well written and researched -- but two of these are basic errors. The history of design of the Zero is more complex, but it was designed from the ground up as a carrier fighter -- not to face the Spitfire, but to perform better off carriers.

There's also confusion between referring to the Indian National Army (Japanese service) and the British Indian Army (or just Indian Army), the latter of which is frequently called the former. An editor should've caught all of this. Again, I am enjoying the work, but this stuff sticks out.
