Here's a horror story. If plastics sourced from crude oil (naptha) have a GHG intensity indexed to 1, then from gas sourced ethane it's 0.8, but from coal based methanol to olefins it's ~7. Coal Fischer Tropsch to olefins is ~10. And guess which way some markets are trending?

I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.

How are folks approaching or thinking about the Insurance Commissioner’s race in California? I am leaning toward Kim, but I am also genuinely not sure how to think about what each is proposing.

Trump’s obsession with demonizing the Somali community is dangerous and reprehensible. Hate to break it to him: Somali Minnesotans are resilient. We will not let Trump intimidate us. Our neighbors have our back.

Trump tries to start a race war: "The once Great State of Minnesota is being taken over by Somali Immigrants ... The Somalians should not be allowed to get away with what they are doing. They view you as weak and stupid people. Fight back Minnesota, fight back!"

Things Gavin Newsom has vetoed this week: -A ban on secretly recording people with smart glasses -A ban on ICE agents working for the state government -A ban on websites selling your data -A bill giving native tribes more say over water rights -A bill protecting transgender healthcare providers

This absolutely rules.

Arte Moreno bought the Angels in 2003 (the year after they won the Series) for $184 million. He then spent 23 years running them into the ground, let the stadium decay, wasted Trout and Ohtani, and sold for $4 billion. And the owners are crying poverty and threatening to kill baseball next year.

Almost every week, we see a liberal writer condemn “wokeism” or the “woke. . .” They are attacking a caricature, a perversion, a distortion of a historically Black concept that MAGA propagandists first distorted. These people are not serious thinkers.

This poem helped me survive living in New York City. It helped me to stay in touch with what home and land meant for me. I will always be grateful for its gift.

Cannot wait to learn how much this developer donated to Trump. Corruption through and through.

Behind closed doors, Newsom is negotiating with investor-owned utilities to help limit their liability for the wildfires they cause, while capping how much local govs and victims can recover. This needs to be subject to public scrutiny and input. www.pressdemocrat.com/2026/08/22/p...

It seems the administration has learned very little about the relationship between the steel industry and its most important consumer.

Trump: "Canada has been ripping off the US for years...On January 1, Tariffs on all Cars, Automotive Parts, & Steel, will be increased to 50%...Canada will be treated like a State no longer! Good stuff from @mariagallucci.bsky.social and @canarymedia.com, per usual. "Residents in southeastern Missouri who support restarting the smelter said they’re nevertheless concerned that it will drive up pollution, unless the smelter moves away from coal and toward clean energy."

Have seen a little grumbling about how this might make it harder for Ds to pick up that seat and a) fuck Andy Ogles forever - good riddance to a horrible racist, and b) leave it to those D strategists to completely miss the point of how building and exercising power work.

The solar industry just destroyed the political career of one of MAGAs most anti-clean energy acolytes in Congress. In a world where solar is the fastest growing form of energy, Kool Oil-drinking Republicans can expect much more of this: www.politico.com/news/2026/08...

People talk about how Gavin Newsom is running for President so he's not paying much attention to the needs of regular Californians (like housing, transit, clean air and clean water). Hopefully this gets his attention and he undoes those funding cuts
