Thinking about 40k has me pondering one of the things I've wanted for a while, which is for the Tyranid hive mind to be split up so that they can have more going on than just being a literally single-goal faction

Either retcon it so the different hive fleets have always been seperated or do some cool lore event where some TSons ritual psychically tears the hive mind into pieces that can't recombine or something like that.

Now you've got opportunities for Tyranids to fight each other, for powerful psykers to try and control or enslave weaker splinters, for some hive fleets to take a "sustainable farming" approach to harvesting biomass, all sorts of interesting options

They've kinda got the same problem that the Necrons did before they got a lore update where you can only tell a couple of stories with them. It's less pronounced because those stories are more compelling and fun but it's still limiting.
