If you think a "chicken egg" is an egg containing a chicken, then the chicken egg came first. If you think a "chicken egg" is an egg laid by a chicken, then chickens came first. This is a solved question.

Would this be happening if Trump hadn't been elected?

"I envied those who had died." What Ukrainians go through in Russian captivity is horrifying. Both men and women are subjected to torture. 34-year-old Olesia Melnychenko, an Azov paramedic, shared what she endured during eight and a half months in Russian captivity in Olenivka

Small thing but I love it, from Prey: Normally the "get more health" skill tree is a dead end of the imagination for casuals. "Get 20% more health." "Get 50% more health." Putting "harvest resources for making expensive items" on the same branch makes it more interesting already.

Jira-564311: Dogs' pathing broken when laying down to sleep. Will repeatedly loop 2-4 times before finally lying down. Comments: Caused by competing sleep/snuggle states. Safety timeout fail-safes to sleep. Was originally opened as Jira-2625, but after we fixed it, users complained. WNF

As more people try to leverage AI to make their careers for them, I suspect they'll learn a lesson every "old school" creator had to learn the hard way: You don't get paid for your talent. "Talent" is the by-product of a lifetime spent developing artistic taste. You get paid for your taste.

And, like Evans, it's not just the questions, it's the incredible *presence* she brings to the interview. Martin's guests' answers light up her face, and where Evans is ever-friendly/ever-teflon, Martin will readily push back on shallow answers (albeit with a friendly laugh). Speaking of ...

Rachel Martin's laugh is a *weapon.* It bubbles out of her like champagne, and is at once delightful, and vulnerable, and authentic, and absolutely a pushback against bullshit. Sometimes it felt put on, but it always served to deflate the rigidity of the format, and keep things real.

Rachel Martin, like Sean Evans, fuses a gimmicky structure (basically it's the "pick-three roguelike deck builder" of interviews) with meaningful questions and a surprisingly sincere style. But where Evans gets there by the depth of his research, Martin does it with the depth of her questions.

Here are some of the questions I saw last night: "What did you think adulthood would look like, when you were a child?" "What did you reject as a teenager?" "What is your relationship to time?"

I told a friend an essayist I really admire had sexually assaulted someone during college. My friend said, "Sorry for your loss." And that is *exactly* what it feels like.

Check out this fantastic interview with @mattfnwallace.bsky.social talking about the fantastic narrative behind TMNT: Splintered Gate, and then come tell me how impressed you are that I know Matt.

HEY LOOKIT MY HANDSOME MUG. @superevilmegacorp.bsky.social dropped this extended round table featuring Ninja Turtles comics czar Tom Waltz, SEMC Narrative Director @thomasbeekers.com and myself talking writing and creating the narrative of TMNT: Splitered Fate. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8o5...

All respect to the people who paid 90k+ for the privilege, but whenever I see a Cybertruck in real life, I keep thinking I'm being tailed by the Go-Bots.

I would never say this to his face, but I'm really worried that Martin Sheen isn't going to text me anymore after the election is over. It feels like he only wants to talk about one thing. 🙁

I've been playing No Man's Sky a lot recently, and I can tell they are getting closer to hitting "true galaxy simulation" because the more varied and realistic the worlds are, the more I want to stay inside and play management sims and Space Pokemon.

30 mins after watching Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and it's already juking with Homecoming for my favorite Spider-Man film. It's absolutely the most grounded, and the most New York, of any of the movies in the MCU. And the best villain in the movie has a very short scene on a rooftop. IYKTYK

It just occurred to me that we are living through the first generational "changing of the guard" where both generations (Millenials and GenZ) have put a vast majority of their culture into a searchable, rediscoverable medium. The cringe from both sides is unavoidable.

Becoming increasingly exhausted with the "...but if you ONLY do X then Y will happen!" gotcha'ing that happens when someone offers a thoughtful bit of advice.

"But if you ONLY prioritize yourself you're a sociopath!" "But if you ONLY prioritize your inner circle you're othering your community!" "But if you ONLY prioritize your community, you're abandoning yourself!" To quote the Buddha: "Fucking duh, man."

This is the letter kids got at the end of Dolly’s Imagination Library. I defy you to read this and not cry.

Did the Florida panhandle get Portland-weird in my absence? Within one mile was "Waldo's Chicken and Beer" and a coffee shop that was also an optometrist's office. With a drive through.
