@everyone It’s the meow-ment you’ve been waiting for! We’re happy to announce Little Kitty, Big City will be officially releasing on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store next Monday October 12th, 2026! 📱🐾 You can pre-register NOW on both platforms!

My boss, to his credit, argued over and over with the c-level who pushed the AI — “we already have Stella and she’s funny and she’s good at this, she’s done live games before so live ops are no problem,” etc — but the suit insisted “gamers love new tech” so using AI would be “great marketing”

Kitty's on the move! Little Kitty, Big City is coming to Android and Apple devices! You'll be able to get your paws on it later this year. 🐾📱🐈‍⬛ The wait's worth it, we purr- omise! Check out the announcement trailer and pounce onto preorders with the App and Google Play Stores!

> revenue remains flat for 5 years > 1 game is 80% of revenue > double company size > somehow have 5,000 people working 1 game, a digital store, and an engine > digital store still doesn’t have sizable market share vs a company that has 350 employees > whatcouldgowrong

Temp assets should be as obvious as error'd assets

Jaws Slayer 🎃@jesawyer.bsky.social

Placeholder assets in a game should look obnoxiously temporary, so obvious that no one would mistake it for the final asset. In past games we've used the doge dog (rip) as an icon, hot pink versions of characters, our CEO's head, etc. If you use a temp asset that seems passable, it may stay there.

QQ: is anyone in my network a 2D pixel artist looking for contract work? I have a good friend who is looking for someone to help them on a small project 🙂 If so, send me a msg and I’ll intro yall!

I don’t think people know how common this is

This is a deranged thing to say to someone wtf. www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/ov...

Incredible. Prev project of mine was offered 70/30 (in their favor, until recoup, then 60/40) and 60/40 (in their favor, forever). Both also owned all IP and sequel rights. I was told “that’s standard” by many people. Absolutely crazy for those pubs who did nothing more than throw money at you.

💰THE OUTERSLOTH CONTRACT 💰 We just released the FULL contract and terms that all our games sign! We hope this challenges the status quo of what you see out there. In a nutshell: 💸 Pre-recoup 50/50 💸 Post-recoup 15/85 💸 Terms after 7 years www.innersloth.com/the-outerslo...

I wish people knew how insane the desktop stack is. It’s like 4 different runtimes of different versions and layers of layers of brokers. It’s a nightmare of components run by different teams

It’s kinda weird to even have that recommendation when PS5 and Xbox ship with 16GB.

This is going to happen... a lot. Not just because things like the Steam Deck encourage a minimum viable hardware spec, but because a growing portion of our players cannot and will not be able to access major leaps in hardware. RAM and GPU prices are making the cutting-edge player more rare!

literally survivorship bias. how'd "Bioware magic" work out for them in the end?

Jaws Slayer 🎃@jesawyer.bsky.social

Really like the idea that you can use one successful company to refute the sustainability of crunch. Can we use the myriad companies that have crunched and gone under to counter this assertion? Well, no.

I just... don't understand the gabebox. What's the *actual* market here? People who want a PC in their living room? A strict gaming-only desktop that you can't upgrade? Why buy this over a pre-built PC or an Xbox or PS4 (which has exclusive games)?

M.H. Williams@mhwilliams.bsky.social

Context is everything. Steam Machines originally launched into a space with poor support up against the relative strength of Windows. The new one drops into a space occupied by the Steam Deck's strides in compatibility, Big Picture, and Windows flailing. store.steampowered.com/sale/hardware

I'm not surprised. I still really want a spicy GDC roundtable that's just shit-talking indie publishers because there's just soooo much tea. If they can't even reply to the IGF what makes you think they'll reply to that 1m+ sub streamer? Or brand who wants $$$ collab?

Aura/Moom@moomanibe.bsky.social

blog post boiling within me titled "indie publishers, you need to get your shit together" based on this year of indie pubs submitting games to IGF w/ a demo and then when asked for a dev build so anyone can actually judge it, either ghost or go "we will provide you with a build on the release date"

“Few contractors”? Fuck off. 30+ people on music, 18 on localization, dozens of voice actors. It took 7 years and the previous title sold more than BF2042 did

QA, loc, music, “additional art and design”, those people work just as hard. Sweeping them under and saying it was just 3 people is insulting.

BF6 thoughts: it’s….fine. I’d describe it as “COD but with more people and some vehicles”. I’d love to learn why previous features got removed (ie: attrition system). Do features that encourage team play not playtest as well? Or trying to target other markets/players?

BattleBit remastered outsold BF 2042, and it had much slower gameplay and gameplay systems like bleeding. The market exists. There’s a lot of evidence players can learn complex but rewarding gameplay 🙂

game dev joys: discovering you can use the new customizer feature to make the entire cat lime green, turn them into a green screen and overlay a king gizzard video on there

If you’re an industrial engineer at Apple: please try your design on an airplane. This stupid charger doesn’t work on most 737s because it’s too wide

Here is my charity pin I designed for King Gizzard for Field of Vision! All proceeds will go to PfCA, a grassroots movement building a vibrant community for 2SLGBTQIA+ and Gender-diverse people in rural Colorado. I was so honored to make this

I both extremely love and hate this game at the same time 😂

I got to go to "The Shape Of MOTHER" exhibition in Tokyo today. A gorgeous display of the original 180 clay models from MOTHER 1 and 2. No pictures were allowed inside, but you must go see it if you're in Tokyo between now and Sept. A truly special exhibition. I'm so happy I got to see it!

If you want to actually solve the problem, instead of punishing itch, start calling payment cos Collective Shout, which is run by people who get published by Spinifex, a very terf-seeming organization, apparently needed 1,000 people to yell at visa to get this done. We got more than 1000 people.

Hiring and firing is _very_ expensive. Even more so when knowledge and team cohesion is lost. Want to make games cheaper? Have a lean team that works well and can move quickly. The bloat is insane

The state of AAA game dev right now #gamedev #indiedev

I never got the full story why it was depreciated. When I was an intern we found some old owners and asked how to make games for the upcoming Win8 (can we use XNA?!). We were told to write our own or use JS since that “was the future” 😭

Like most things, I think it was just too early. No easy upsell to Azure, or Bing ads, or marketplace for assets. Trying to track XNA users to VS installs was probably doomed from the start

The US Army marched through Washington DC yesterday to commemorate its 250th year. Many officials were in attendance, including Secretary Pete Hegseth. To show his support for the Army, he wore a camo tie. Personally, I think there was a more sophisticated choice 🧵
