Astro 7.4 ships experimental parallel prerendering. I tried it on the Astro docs (6,358 pages): build time went from 67s to 37s, 45% faster. 🚀

Designing software that agents can operate and designing software that incorporates / embeds agents are two very different engineering problems, and I'm convinced that the former is the more durable long-term investment for infrastructure projects.

Coming soon to @astro.build we're adding a --timings flag you can have your agents run to figure out what is slowing down your build, and have it fix it.

💡 One underrated benefit of AI: it can operationalize (cognitive) empathy. Hear me out. Most people struggle to see things from someone else's perspective. So many biases in the way: confirmation bias, curse of knowledge, etc. [1/2]

I'm working on this, performance is cool

I built a window manager / compositor in the style of the Atari TOS. Despite the vintage look it has most modern features, like windowed, tiling and scrolling modes. It includes a web browser, email client, and word processor. gemwm.org

gemwm.orgGemWM: the Atari ST desktop for WaylandGemWM is a Wayland compositor that looks like the Atari ST's GEM desktop: a desktop in the ST's colours, the GEM menu bar and black and white windows, with window, tiling and scrolling modes, and apps...

Wifi, Bluetooth, volume, printing, notifications apps (among others). Also includes a DBus service for LLM access, meaning desktop apps can use AI features (the email client has opt-in message categorization for ex). WIP.

I'm going to be launching something pretty big next week, which just happens to include a new atproto AppView, labeler, blob proxy, lexicons. It will have tens of thousands of users, most of whom won't even know they're using atproto, or have even heard of it.

Is EmDash ready for production? The Cloudflare blog moved to EmDash, and then handled a busy Agents Week and a DDoS thrown in for good measure, without batting an eyelid. The team has written up how they did it.

We redesigned the Cloudflare Blog — dark mode, cleaner UI, faster load times. What you might not know: the whole thing runs on EmDash, a new CMS built on Cloudflare Workers. We were Customer Zero. https://cfl.re/3SxGOxZ

Astro DX in Biome is about to get better, thanks to @erika.florist and @astro.build

Erika@erika.florist

I sent a small PR fixing a few bugs in @biomejs.dev's Astro support. This is part of a larger effort this quarter to improve the formatting story of Astro, with more to come 😄

Why are the alliance people in Rogue One considered heroes? They failed to get the plans to the right people in time to stop Alderaan from being destroyed. They failed.

Today niri became 3 years old! 🎉 I implemented and merged animations for windows moving between workspaces. This was the last *major* missing anim. Took so long because it's tricky with Z ordering (moving windows must be on top of everything), clipping, and syncing 3 different animations. #niri

Astro 7.2 is out now! Experimental incremental static builds are here: only re-render the pages that actually changed and watch your build times drop. Plus opt-out session support, background astro preview, and relative logger entrypoints. astro.build/blog/astro-7...

astro.buildAstro 7.2 | AstroAstro 7.2 adds experimental incremental static builds, an option to opt out of session support, background mode for astro preview, and relative logger entrypoints.

Replies are the only thing that matters on a *social* network. Without replies it's a microblog. This is the only thing that Bluesky should be focusing on. Stop promoting AT. Stop all other projects. Stop fixing bugs. Focus only on things that lead to replies.

@astro.build Is really cool. I like that it actually generates HTML, rather than generating JS that *then* generates HTML (but you can still add in reactive JS with their "islands" concept if you want).
