As (too) many have heard, I had concerns that there was no modern magician pipeline.

several people have replied saying they miss being bored. ok? put your phone down and go sit in an empty room. what are you talking about

Began the process for filing for 11 patents through work. Crazy-titles reading like you got covered in honey and fell into a pit of Scrabble tiles. Eager to see where / how far it goes and if any turn out to be good enough.

I had a goal at the start of the year to see if anything I had in mind / built recently was patentable. Then forgot for nine months as {have you heard, technology is quite a topic lately!}, then decided to check back in on the idea and found more pass various bars than expected. Might be fun!

If you are Elizabeth Holmes and want to play this character for my new movie, or just lock eyes intensely for like six hundred hours, hello.

Whomever decided to start drinking animal milk in 6500 BC must have been a wild dude. Like, “hey, you’re not my mother, and you’re an animal, but can I get a lil’ taste?” Absolute freak behavior.

I’m telling you now, if I ever win the lottery I’m gonna spend about fifty million dollars trying to figure out how to clone or return Little Richard to our world.

I reiterate my multi-year concern that if toilets are ever able to communicate, there is absolutely nothing we can say to make up for the endless atrocities we have inflicted upon them. We will finally be forced to deal with our casual abuses of their very existence and inability to run.

the cynic in me thinks that a lot of this is that we're preemptively maneuvering around the fact that pretty soon a bunch of things-- LLMs and probably some animals we'll be able to understand because of LLMs-- are going to ask us for moral standing, in their own words, and boy that's a hard one

Officiating the wedding of two dear friends in a week and I'm calling my shots in the Google Doc for the speech / vows / ring exchange.

/whispers “More computer” It makes logical sense, but I'm amazed that Apple's cheapest lowest-spec'd laptop (MacBook Neo), out-performs a machine I paid $3200 for in 2020 by ~1.6-3x on a pile of benchmarks.

There is not one metric that my 2020 32 Gb Intel MacBook Pro beats the MacBook Neo in, while being heavier and louder. Five years is once again so long in compute years after such incremental gains through 2015-2020.

"Now that we have an outsized market position. I think you all should chill on trying to beat us." Amazing timing. Amodei pushing for this right before becoming an enterprise-software multi-billionaire. Advocating for slowing the costly side of his biz to routinely extract godly recurring revenues.

the titans of industry are in agreement. naturally one assumes the proposal in question is bad or, at best, toothless waiting for zuckerberg to say "yeah we'll pace ourselves too" and everyone to laugh xcancel.com/sama/status/... xcancel.com/elonmusk/sta...

My prediction is that not one of these companies a) slows down, b) engages with meaningful consultation or restriction. The bar to now play in the enterprise and government leagues just rises and rises while the cost of open-source models continues very well.

If not already, in under 18 months I suspect the 'big' models will be rendered as neutered and "helpful" as their creators' main products and target industries require. As someone else shared, I want an AI that haggles for me, not an AI that helps me buy an airplane ticket.

Looking like a genius repeatedly to people asking questions because I learned how to read banners at the top of applications and web apps when I was ten.

folks blaming google for "capitulating" on this don't understand that there are 195 countries on the planet & G shows different labels for geographical features to *everyone* depending on their language & country. why would they make a special exception for the US just because we voted in a dumbass

Dolly Parton, among a thousand other amazing things she did in her life, gifted over 330 million books to kids through her Imagination Library program. Her passing is a tremendous loss to the world, but you can support the program today to keep it going imaginationlibrary.com

tech has gotten so good that people assume the funny robotics competition fires are ai fakes

Sung Kim@sungkim.bsky.social

This is funny because where the fire starts. 🤣

AI will win against humans because they live without our innate human nature of needing to organize data, align stakeholders, and increase shareholder value.

the theory of relativity works in ways you wouldn't expect. for example if you eat Combos at high velocity (in a car trip) they will energize you, but if you eat them at zero velocity (at home) they will drain your life essence

Amazing. I think I just got this. What a time to be alive
