To help shape these proposals, #RocketScienceLab and @povertyalliance.org will launch a consultation soon.
We're keen to hear from those working in credit unions, community finance, advice services, and those supporting people facing financial exclusion.
The consultation will include surveys, interviews, focus groups, workshops, and opportunities to share evidence and good practice.

We heard a powerful contribution from Charlotte, who shared her lived experience of financial exclusion. She spoke of the difficulties she faced accessing affordable credit following her father's death, when she needed support with funeral costs. Her story showed the real impact exclusion can have.
Overall, it was a really constructive discussion that helped MPs gain a deeper understanding of the barriers people face and why wider system change is needed to improve access to affordable credit.
#FinancialInclusion#FairBanking#AffordableCredit#PolicyChange
The session explored the challenges faced by people excluded from affordable credit, what can be achieved within existing frameworks, and where targeted policy changes could help unlock further progress. We also considered lessons from the United States,
where the Community Reinvestment Act has driven significant lending and investment into underserved communities over the past four decades. The discussion aimed to inform parliamentary thinking on emerging policy options, including proposals for a Fair Banking Act.
Thanks to Baroness Kramer and other peers who spoke during Financial Services Bill debate this week and explained why we need to grow #CreditUnions and #CDFIs if we want a financial system that works for everyone

"A Fair Banking Act is a common sense, proportionate measure which could have transformative benefits for businesses and communities across the UK, and I commend this Bill to the House."

Affordable credit is critical for households and businesses. A #FairBankingAct would make banks accountable for expanding fair, affordable lending where it’s needed most. @fbfacampaign.bsky.social@gareththomasmp.bsky.social#FairBankingForAll

Great to join the conversation in Glasgow! Listening to residents share the challenges they face in accessing affordable credit reinforces why initiatives like the #FairBankingAct matter. Huge thanks to everyone involved for exploring practical steps to boost financial inclusion. #FairBankingForAll
Thank you to Martin Rhodes MP,
@pjferguson.bsky.social, @maureenburke.bsky.social & John Grady MP for meeting Glasgow residents to hear their experiences of being shut out of affordable credit, & how a #FairBankingAct could change this.

Last week we responded to Scottish Labour’s consultation on financial inclusion.
With 22.4% of households in Scotland facing a poverty premium, we’re calling for an ambitious UK-wide Financial Inclusion Strategy to address this.

It's just wrong that people on low incomes have unjust stigma put on them by others. Ine in five people on low incomes say they have often experienced discrimination or judgement. And that has a bad impact on their mental health.

It’s time for a #FairBankingAct.
We're calling for a #FairBankingAct 📣
As the UK Government gears up to unveil its long-anticipated Financial Inclusion Strategy, we at Financial Inclusion for Scotland are urging bold action - action that goes beyond just words.
💬 Why do we need a Fair Banking Act at the heart of this strategy?
In Scotland, we’re seeing local innovation from #creditunions, #fintechs, and #communitylenders. However, true systemic change demands leadership and legislation across the UK.
A national strategy without legal accountability is merely lip service. With a #FairBankingAct in place, financial inclusion would become a right for everyone.

As the UK Government gears up to unveil its long-anticipated Financial Inclusion Strategy, we at Financial Inclusion for Scotland are urging bold action - action that goes beyond just words.
💬 Why do we need a Fair Banking Act at the heart of this strategy?
Because too many people across the UK still face hurdles when trying to access something as fundamental as a bank account or affordable credit. A financial system that works for only a select few holds us ALL back.
Here’s what we advocate for:
✅ Mandatory standards ensuring access for all
✅ A universal right to a no-fee basic bank account
✅ Clear transparency on how banks serve vulnerable customers
✅ Accountability from regulators & institutions
✅ Products designed by those who truly know their needs
