Too many small businesses still struggle to access the finance they need to grow. CDFIs are stepping in where mainstream lenders fall short. A #FairBankingAct could help scale their role and widen access to fair, affordable credit. #FairBankingForAll www.thetimes.com/article/6e7d...

4/ To achieve this, the UK government should enable the NWF to raise its own finance and invest long-term, just like other successful public banks worldwide. This independence would dramatically increase investment and combine fiscal credibility with greater economic ambition.

2/ Right now the NWF can only invest up to £5.5bn a year. But has the potential to unlock tens of billions for the just transition. In 2025 alone, Germany’s public bank invested £53.5 billion. Britain is trying to finance a just transition with a fraction of the firepower needed.

3/ What a scaled-up NWF could do: - Retrofit homes for warmth & cheaper bills. -Give the public a bigger stake in their infrastructure. -Provide fair, well-paid green jobs across the country. -Give regional banks funds to invest in small businesses & local communities.

Very proud to have co-authored this report, which argues that a government scheme backed by cheap lending from the Bank of England could allow 8m+ households to install rooftop solar systems with NO upfront cost, and £250 pa savings. #financingcostsaretheproblem

This summer's intense sunshine could be powering our homes. But most households can't afford to install their own solar panels. The Solar Saver scheme would change this. From @neweconomics.bsky.social and @thefinancelab.bsky.social 1/5

'Too often it's those with the least who end up paying the most'. There is real potential to use the Financial Services Bill to drive big changes in financial services. We're excited to work with peers, and our allies in civil society and industry to make sure the opportunity doesn't pass us by.

We strongly concur with @philbrickellmp.bsky.social's call in today's @theguardian.com for more resourcing to fight corruption in response to @thefinancelab.bsky.social's research👇 "It’s time to give our enforcement agencies the resources they need to crack down on the scourge of economic crime".

Our new research estimates at least £325 billion of dirty money flows through the UK every year. UK - especially City of London - remains a global hub for money laundering, corruption & tax abuse. www.theguardian.com/business/202...

"The upshot is that even pension schemes that have promised not to invest in fossil fuels have ploughed money into funds that are paying for major gas projects." @tbij.bsky.social investigate where UK public sector pensions are really being invested.

Billions of pounds from UK public pensions are being used to bankroll the expansion of US gas companies And the gas terminals being built as a result are impacting the health of poor American communities
