Lots of US companies have done lots of dreadful things to Americans. But the symbolism of paying to destroy the White House is hard to top.

The most disheartening thing about America’s descent into fascism has been the abject cowardice of virtually all the people and institutions that could have stood up and refused to comply.

it’s not a dark enlightenment, what we are undergoing is a dark reenchantment. people’s understanding of the world is increasingly formed by sources seeking to intrigue or awe, rather than inform with anything like procedurally vetted approximations of mundane truth.

HUGE admission by El Salvador here; it completely puts to lie the Trump admin’s repeated claims in court that it has no control over people sent to El Salvador to be imprisoned without trial. El Salvador told the United Nations definitively; these people are being held under U.S. jurisdiction.
