When I'm not being a pane in the glass, I write LGBT romance incorporating my love of history and the paranormal, and rarely have my nose far from the pages of a book - or a cup of tea. www.fiona-glass.com

Our trusty kitchen wall clock, which we bought when we first moved in 17 years ago, fell off the wall and smashed last night. Now trying to find a new one, but nowhere seems to sell them round here...

Oooh looky what's just turned up!!

I've just hit 'send' on that art contest I mentioned entering the other day. I won't win, but it's good experience and I had a LOT of fun with the picture. 😊

Well, that was a lively weekend... Storm Boelo was pretty fierce in Cumbria with lots of trees and big branches down locally and torrential rain. We still managed to battle through to N Wales for MIL's 87th birthday though!

Cumbria is under three separate bad weather warnings this weekend. Yesterday was blustery and wet; today is already worse and the worst is yet to come! Have battened down various hatches; looks like it could be a wild night...

Has everyone in the UK survived Storm Austen reasonably unscathed? We've had heavy rain and blustery winds here in Cumbria, worse to come tomorrow apparently! 🌧️

Planned a trip to Glenridding this morning but car park full! Carried on to Aira Force, got second to last space and had lovely walk through the woods to the waterfall and lunch at the National Trust cafe. Sketched the view - I need to practise umbrellas! 😂 (see last pic)

He raised his hand, still clutching the mysterious thing. ‟Guy?” he said in a voice that quavered suddenly. ‟Why am I holding a skull?" My new m/m paranormal romance Ghosts in Spades features ghosts (obvs), skulls, archaeology and an exploding ice-house!! Perfect for Halloween. mybook.to/3F2oOY

Had a special trip to Kendal this morning to see my pic and the other art at the "Keep the Door Open" art exhibition in aid of homelessness charity Manna House. Arrived within the opening times to find the building in darkness and the door (oh, the irony!) locked. I'm sooo disappointed... 😢

Every other courier: "Track your parcel here" "It'll arrive between 1.30 and 2.30" "Beat us up if it's late" Royal Mail: "It turns up when it turns up, okay?" Sigh...

I rescued some sheep! Well, not literally... just this picture, which I'd had a bit of a watercolour disaster with. But using the technique of overlaying pastels that we learned at Windermere Art Society the other week, I managed to resuscitate it! How do you rescue art when it goes wrong?

New! In time for Halloween... MM paranormal romance - with ghosts! - GHOSTS IN SPADES is out now! Standalone sequel to Ghosts Galore. Same characters, setting and fun plus unexpected skulls, annoying archaeologists, and a powerful new ghost who threatens the future of the Hall. mybook.to/3F2oOY

I've been a bit quiet the last couple of days - got something in my eye that caused an allergic reaction. Am now on painkillers, anti-histamines and eye drops thanks to our trusty opticians' Community Eye Care scheme - 15 mins of check up and advice for free! Thank heaves for the NHS.

Fascinating session at Windermere Art Society last week with a workshop on layering pastels over watercolour. It certainly brought this previously rather drab little lake scene to life! and I'll be trying to resuscitate a few more ruined paintings!

Drama for the day: came downstairs to get lunch, to find a robin hurtling about! Managed to open windows and doors front and back, and eventually it found its way out. Poor little thing was quite distressed so of course there's poop everywhere. But I'm very happy it's back outdoors where it belongs!

Went to the bird art exhibition at Rheged (near Penrith) the other day and were blown away. Lots of great art but also legends, poetry, facts, photographs... Fascinating and inspiring and well worth the £3 entry fee. I sketched these little birdies at Blackwell, but I thought I’d use them anyway!

Thanks to Heritage Open Days for giving us a fascinating visit to Grade 1 Listed Borwick Hall this morning. Part dating (possibly!) from the 1320s, it's an absolute maze of rooms, passages, staircases, odd corners, chimneys, more staircases, and a possibly haunted room at the top of the tower!!

No more welly boot stands! Yesterday I was back to my comfort zone of Lake District scenery, thanks to a lovely sketching session with two friends at the Pier cafe at Waterhead (the head of Windermere). Nice coffee, friendly staff, good company, wonderful views - a super morning all round! ❤️

How to take a series of ordinary household items and make them look thoroughly sinister!! We had the first session of the new year at Windermere Art Society last night, tussling with tricky still life compositions. Do you enjoy the challenge of still life or do you hate it?
