I was racking my brain trying to rememberโ but the only one I recall being traumatised by is โCatโs Eyeโ, so I look it up & Iโd have been ~5. Thatโs probably the earliest then. I grew up to love both cats & King.
Do you remember what *your* first R-rated movie was? I finally asked my mom (I couldn't remember), and she told me it was The Lost Boys when I was roughly the same age as my daughter (about 9). The movie traumatized her more than it did me, apparently

I was well into my thirties when I figured it out. But as a kid, I acted like a boy and refused to wear dresses etc, so it didn't really come as a surprise to anyone lol
I'm always so curious about when trans and nonbinary folks realized what they were. Like, my wife didn't realize she was genderfluid until well into her twenties, but I knew I wasn't a girl or a boy before I was even ten years old.
5 living authors you've read 5+ books each: @stephenking.bsky.social @jacquelinecarey.bsky.social @maggiestiefvater.bsky.social @nkjemisin.bsky.social @tamorapierce.bsky.social Goodness, I think they're all relatively unscathed at current (the 1st author who sprang to mind certainly is not)

I spoke to McConnell for a wee bit this morning. We had a substantive conversation about the education system, how authoritative Christian cults have lead to the downfall of critical thinking, and even a little bit on Culturally Responsive Teaching. I told him the nation sends thoughts & prayers.
