Flashes 1.11.0 is out 📸 The big one: Flashes can now describe your photos for you. Add a picture to a post and a description is written automatically, in the language you're posting in. All of it happens on your iPhone. Your photos are never sent anywhere to do it. 🧵

Fixed: • A photo that can't be read no longer fails quietly. Flashes tells you which one, and your post stays intact. • Search no longer hangs. It stops after 15 seconds and tells you what went wrong. • Search results come back faster.

• Notification settings now save reliably. • A muted account no longer shows up when someone else quotes them. • Fixed a freeze when a video started playing. Update on the App Store: apps.apple.com/app/flashes-... #news #release #v1.11.0

You stay in charge: tap ALT on any photo to read, edit, rewrite or regenerate the description before you post. Rather do it yourself? Switch it off in Composer Settings. It needs iOS 27 and an iPhone with Apple Intelligence turned on.

Also new: • Haptic feedback is now off by default. Miss the tap when a post goes out? Turn it back on in Composer Settings. • Handles now show in full. Prefer them shortened? Settings → Accessibility & Display → Font Size & Display → Shorten handles.

*Ding ding* Push Notifications are here. You can choose who each category covers - everyone, people you follow, or nobody - and there's a switch for seeing wider Bluesky activity if you want the full picture. Uploads are also completely rewritten.

What's new in Flashes ✨ You've been tagging your photos with hashtags. We figured - wouldn't it be cool if those hashtags actually became real photo feeds? Now they do. Any hashtag that hits 10 photos auto-builds a feed in the new Feeds tab. Same for every camera, lens, and ISO.

No curation - just photos people are actually shooting. Want every #mountain shot this week? Curious what people are doing with a Fuji X100V? One tap. Tap any camera/lens/ISO chip under a photo to jump into its feed. Type # in the composer to find tags people are already using.

The time has come (Part 2) - we're (soft-) launching „Stories" on iOS today (again). At the top of your timeline you'll see the stories of the people you follow. We'll start with photos and a text overlay. Stories will be visible for 24h (we'll add more options later).

If you don't want Stories at all you can disable the feature app-wide in the settings. Have fun!!! Furthermore, we’ve started adding localization to the app for Japanese 🇯🇵, Korean 🇰🇷, Spanish 🇪🇸, German 🇩🇪, Italian 🇮🇹, French 🇫🇷, Portuguese 🇵🇹🇧🇷 and Polish 🇵🇱.

Ok, double checked. The first list I exported to the Play Store only contained 66 emails...don't ask me why. I just re-submitted the form's list (which contains more than 1000 testers). It is awaiting review. I will post the test link to the Store listing here once the review has finished.

Sorry for the long wait. I was quite busy the last 2 months securing a new 'base' for Flashes with @eurosky.social - account hosting and data processing outside of the US as sovereign social media infrastructure in Europe. There will be news coming out of that one in Jan 2026. The Android alpha...

Open source and European solutions are the answer here. You said this yourself at re:publica. There is a lot of hope and momentum in this area right now. Mastodon is expanding its business model and growing rapidly. Bluesky is becoming more independent.

There is even an Instagram alternative with Flashes. These developments are encouraging. But they now need to be specifically supported by the federal government in its individual plan."
