In Plato’s “City of Pigs,” people first build a simple society based on basic needs, cooperation, and enough for everyone. But when they begin craving luxury, excess, and ever-growing wealth, the city changes.

The US is seeking to release up to 17 million barrels of oil from its Strategic Petroleum Reserve to help curb fuel prices driven up by the war on Iran, Reuters reports. NB: the US uses 20 million barrels a day The strategic reserve only has 283 million barrels left, the lowest level since 1982

Great idea.

Received my “Trump” $90 Medicare rebate yesterday. Turned around and donated it to a couple of democratic candidates, through Actblue. So in effect, the U.S. Government paid for my donation. Trump’s a total moron.

Omg

Scott Horton@robertscotthorton.bsky.social

Absolutely extraordinary strategic and military concessions offered by Trump to Xi. Trump offered to sell weapons to China. That was revealed in an interview by David Perdue, the US ambassador. Trump is withholding a $14bn arms package to Taiwan already approved by Congress. All of this

Oh! Of course!

Again folks the majority of these data centers are not being built for AI like you use. These data centers will Be used to mine for crypto, to make the builder rich at your expense. Pass it along. 🤨🦅

Just saw that creepy ad during college game. At first I thought it must be a Dem ad because of what someone wanted to get rid of. Horrible to see DJT with that evil look. What a threat! Danger.

I love this sooo much!

For anyone who hasn’t seen this yet, this is hilarious. It’s an American fascism board game made by a bunch of Canadian kids in London, Ontario. 😂

This is an absolute disaster from a national security perspective. Obviously, a lot on F-35s is classified, but a weapons-bay door and a canopy with radar-absorbing material are some of the most sensitive. Hard to describe how bad this is.

Love this guy's daily sunrise shots. Check this one out!

Paul Gundlach@paulsgundlach.bsky.social

Happy Thursday! We're almost through the week!We have a nor'easter coming, so our sunrise rays were accompanied by some rather intense waves as seen here. Tap for full size. I hope you have a great day!

I watched NFL for a few years but now I recognize that I am watching young men receive brain injuries. Not so fun. Not to mention all the other negatives. I'll watch college ball.

I resigned from ExxonMobil today. I spent the last three years doing fossil fuel extraction research at both BP and ExxonMobil. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing to maximize extraction while the window to act closes, and gambling with our lives. More below.

We are being tracked, monitored, and profiled 24/7 by a corporate-state complex that treats our private lives as raw data to be harvested and monetized.

Mitch may have been gone weeks before Elaine started posting AI selfies. Ten days before Mitch McConnell completely disappeared, he was in the Senate for nearly 20 hours and barely moved.

Total failure by the media. Crushing.

When America is gone, remember NYT headlines like this and never again ask what role corporate media played in normalizing the most dangerous man on Earth

There are solutions. We just need to elect leaders that care to invest in them.

A rooftop wind turbine that could change the way we think about home energy Imagine generating electricity from the wind without needing a massive tower, a huge plot of land, or a traditional wind farm. The technology shown here is designed to bring small-scale wind generation directly onto rooftops

Whelp...

Your 'moment of doom' for Aug. 22, 2026 ~ Millions soon homeless. "However, the 1951 Convention and the 1967 Protocol do not recognise people displaced by climate change as refugees. There is no clear definition of a 'climate refugee'." independentaustralia.net/politics/pol...

I find myself incredibly sad about our poor, burning Planet Earth. It seems millions will starve, be displaced, be killed in natural disasters - and there is really nothing we can do now to prevent this. Of course, we should make drastic changes now to our lifestyles - but, who's doing that?
