My own mission. If anyone implies that we won't have more elections, correct them. That wish comes straight from Trump and Putin. Americans own American elections. Trump is a conman and liar. It is not his call on our elections. "Do Not Obey in Advance" Timothy Snyder@TimothyDSnyder on X

"slightly behind 2018" is not a phrase I like to see

Texas Tribune@texastribune.org

Nearly 4.5 million Texans cast a ballot in the first seven days of early voting, outpacing the turnout rate of the 2022 midterm election but slightly behind 2018.

The pattern is taking shape: preemptive DOJ lawsuits, administration officials selling the premise with bad-faith talking points, and a ready-made argument that an unfavorable result is illegitimate before the votes are even counted.

Eric Columbus@ericcolumbus.bsky.social

There's so much else wrong with this stupid lawsuit but on this specific point: despite being "busy" with "lives" and "jobs," Alaskans were able to spell M-U-R-K-O-W-S-K-I when they reelected her to the Senate as a write-in candidate in 2010 after she lost the GOP primary.

Q: You'll respect the election results whatever happens? TRUMP: If they're honest elections (That's a no!)

The new Marist poll does show Democrats ahead on the national generic congressional ballot among likely voters, 52% to 44%, but that is not the same thing as “the election is handled.” It’s a national measure, and actual House control is decided district by district. Polls do not vote. You do.

Democrats hold significant advantages going into Election Day, according to a new NPR/PBS News/Marist poll. But lagging enthusiasm among key groups is just one indicator that gains may not come easy. n.pr/4imi5Wo

Forty years of cell biology and we still don’t really know what this enormous structure is doing in our cells. Which seems particularly unreasonable because it looks exactly like something Grandma would pull out of her knitting bag.

The most enigmatic structure in cell biology: the Vault. Often missing from science text books, it has been 40 years since the discovery of these giant, half-empty structures, produced within nearly every cell, of every animals, on the planet. Repost of @DeanNeumann7: Original post

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

RFK talks about autistic and Arabic people the exact same way. He assumes they are not capable of ordinary or extraordinary achievements because of who they are. He considers them sub-human because they are not like him. This makes it plain that his is a white supremacist eugenicist project.

RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

He trolls everyone, including his own audience. Invents a ridiculous threat—renaming the Mississippi—then graciously saves them from it. The marks laugh, stand and applaud. The exhausting part is watching the con work, again, in real time.

Everyone keeps asking me how I’m feeling about early voting so far. I’m feeling like nobody *actually* knows anything, and this is the most important midterm of our lives. I’d rather be us than them, but we can’t get comfortable. We can’t get complacent. Go vote like we’re down 3%.

The “flood the zone” strategy has reached a remarkable stage when the President repeatedly discussing another man’s ass barely registers as unusual, and everyone else just starts workshopping the material.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Moreno: "There's a lot of talk in the media about President Trump talking about Jon Husted's ass. The only ass we should be talking about is Sherrod Brown."

Black-necked stilts. Yes, seriously. Tiny shorebirds on flamingo-grade legs, flying in formation with all those red limbs trailing at exactly the same angle. It looks less like a flock than something briefly passing through from another world.

So Trump’s closing argument is that high gas prices are good because his donors who run oil companies are making bank, Jon Husted has a nice ass but not quite as good as Nicki Minaj’s ass, after 7 months the Reflecting Pool is almost done, and we get a ballroom, arch and helipad.

This may be as close as humanity ever gets to a perpetual-motion machine: four children, two planks, some rope, and absolutely no interest in stopping.
