Berlin cops raided a queer health centre yesterday evening, during a regular social gathering for trans women, under allegations that people were sharing medication. If anyone’s wondering how that whole “we protect queer lives” thing is going. taz.de/Durchsuchung...

There will be no speculation about comrades or judgement of people under attack, on my posts 😊 go do that on yr own timeline if you really have to, or better still keep it yourself/the private group chat 😊

& I don’t think it did shooting & crying. I don’t think it invited applause for the interviewees, or gave room for sympathy. In fact it seemed pretty uninterested in their interiority, except inasmuch as it was part of a social critique-eg, in the gap between their self-image & their actions &

& I get the critiques of its role in the racist information environment where Palestinian testimony is ignored until “proof” is given by Israelis… but I also don’t really think the film was “about” proof

Every poster on this wall on Sonnennallee is scratched out like this. The text removed said “From the river to the sea” & “colonise” & I’m trying to picture the person who objects to that phrase & the analysis of Palestine as colonised, but not to “free Palestine” nor to an image from October 7

Berlin police tried to say that the small demo today in solidarity with lgbtiq+ ppl in Turkey, following the raids & arrests a month ago, could only speak english & german

A cyclist yelled (in english) “fuck your islamism” at me, presumably cos I was wearing a kuffiya? & it’s like, mate, we are in neukölln, you are 2 blocks from Sonnennallee here, you are gonna get tired very quickly

If the most ~scandalous~ thing that the hostile press can find about berlin’s future left-wing mayor is that she was (openly) a member of a broad left legal defense organisation, then the party really did do an amazing job choosing their candidate

The open letter from more than 150 Jews living in Berlin calling “for a social & safe city”, & against the claims that die Linke are a threat to Jews, was just discussed on the rbb radio news-the first pushback I’ve heard against the post-election media panic from anywhere other than the left press.

Die Linke have a lot of good election material, but personally I find it hard to beat “For Neukölln. For migration. For Palestine.” as a political summary 🖤

You would think that the worst thing about cleaning work is the clients, but that’s only the second worst thing, the worst thing is that dozens of times a day I perform gestures that remind me of my mum

Yesterday, eight people were sentenced to decades in prison for protesting outside an ICE facility in Prairieland, TX. In our latest issue, Lauren Fadiman covers the case and the right-wing “Antifa” panic surrounding it: thebaffler.com/salvos/the-i...

Try to imagine the kind of person who goes to a Massive Attack concert and complains about the politics 🙄

Berlin vs Massive Attack The Bristol band played the Zitadelle Spandau over the weekend, leaving the German press with one clear complaint: the politics. www.heistberlin.com/news/massive...

One calls itself Das Original, the other has new window signage that says “They took the store. We kept what matters”, they both say they were founded in 1996, they’re a block apart, what’s the story??

This is also the first thing I've published since the realisation that I have to publish with my middle name, to avoid confusion with my name-twin, the other Louise Thatcher, who works at the CSIRO & writes a lot about some very cool sounding plant biology I do not understand

Very happy to have published an article on one of my minor obsessions - the long(er) history of the very present practice of fining shipping companies as a way of enforcing state borders: www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

The worst thing about so many ppl from „australia“ spending the summer in berlin is that it looks like the term FLINTA has escaped to the english-speaking world

guess whose book just got described as "an exciting piece of scholarship", "meticulously researched", "theoretically innovative" & "an important new book" by the publisher's reviewers??

it's really frustrating to me that i have the ability to write a pitch-perfect formal, effective, passive-agressive email in english but i don't have the skills to do it in german

A tiny bit funny that even though I’m an atypically privileged migrant (first world passport + whiteness), I still end up working as a cleaner a lot of the time
