Part of the philosophy of our computer-less / DAW-less album project is to deliberately put back the flaws and natural variations. We’ve all grown accustomed to hearing nothing but smoothed perfection and we’re training AI with that accordingly. This approach is a form of resistance. It’s also fun.

My daughter, 14, is now recording vocal duets with me on this computer-less album project. I think that’s just about the best thing there is. She’s fucking nailing it too, with heart.

@schwindter.bsky.social saw this and the first person I could think of to send it to was yourself. That’s purely down to how many episodes of By-the-Bywater I’ve absorbed at this point.

“Civilisations should never be confused with the states that they typically outlast, nor should we unreflectively prefer larger units of political order to smaller units.” — James C. Scott (Against the Grain) This statement will become very important in the coming few years, mark it’s words.

I am happy to report that our return to a more physical, embodied approach to making records (without a computer / DAW) is paying major dividends. We’re two tracks in and the results are something special. Everything comes out sounding like it was made in the 1970s, which is no bad thing (we think).

Just a note of solidarity with French students who are protesting the conditions of their schooling. When a generation feels continuously exploited and disenfranchised, what choice do they have? Media coverage would do well to focus a little more on the reasons for their actions, in our opinion.

“Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear. Remember that.” — Nemik’s Manifesto (Andor)

Odd that they’ve had so many egg shortages in the US with all those chickens coming home to roost.

We are well underway working on an album made entirely offline without the help of a modern computer (no DAW). There will be no editing at all, every sound you hear will be an actual performance. We won’t even reverse anything (and that’s really hard for me). We’re using a Tascam DP-24SD.

I awoke in Brooklyn on 9/11, 6 miles from Ground Zero. I caught the F-train after the 2nd plane hit, 30 mins late for work. My train halted 3 miles from the WTC, 5 stops from Manhattan. While standing on the outdoor platform, both towers collapsed.

The NYC disaster & exposure zone radius was 1.5 miles. Had I been on time for work, I would have ended up under Lower Manhattan when Tower 1 collapsed, in the zonal epicentre. I was lucky that day, to put it mildly.

Water nationalisation for our water security? End north sea oil & gas - invest in renewables for our energy security? A maximum workplace temperature for worker security? No. A request not to sell BBQs. This is dire from Andy Burnham. Spectacularly mishandling the crisis.

Downing Street's press release for Burnham's "emergency" Cobra meeting on the drought didn't even mention climate, with the Prime Minister blaming the growing numbers of wildfires on disposable barbecues. He's since appeared on GB News this afternoon to talk about migrant camps

Over the past week I’ve taken some drastic measures to change how I make music. I’m stepping away from the computer as much as possible in all aspects of writing and production. I’ve spent so much time locked into the computer paradigm that it has become almost joyless. Happy days are ahead.

Crop yields down, our countryside scorched and over 2800 people are dead due to this summer's heatwaves. Meanwhile fossil fuel giants are raking in record profits. We must end this rampant profiteering, and cut fossil fuels from our energy mix as soon as possible.

New episode is up! This time around we talk about one of the most well known creative works created by #Tolkien -- his invented writing systems, most famously the Tengwar and the Cirth. Art as always from @vandroidhelsing.bsky.social though this time he delved into his past...

Five months ago, the United States killed 168 schoolchildren and teachers in Iran. The Tomahawk missiles used were made by Raytheon - parts of which are made in Scotland. We will never forget.

I stopped buying DVDs ca 2005 having only collected ~20. I hated how expensive they were & illegally copied loads until downloads took over. 21 years later, I was given a £400 Sony player for free and can buy 5 DVDs for £1 at my local charity shop. My revenge, cold as it may be, is finally complete.

Look: stories are everything. EVERYTHING. They are the cognitive framework of our personal reality AND societal reality. We need to tell ourselves, and each other, different stories if we want to change the world. Left vs Right is a story that doesn’t serve us well. Its time to let that one go.

Microsoft is planning to build three massive AI data centres in Leeds. It’ll drain thousands of litres of water from the River Aire & become the city's biggest carbon emitter. We can still stop the council's final sign-off, but we need more voices. Add your name: you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/pr...
